kasey Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 We will be in NYC from July 5-10. We are taking my parents on their first trip there. Here is where I need suggestions, where should I look to reserve a room? I have used PRICELINE for years and know that it only guarantees accomodations for two. We have paid extra a few times to add an extra bed but I am leary of doing this in NYC since there are fewer rooms with two beds. We were at the Murray Hill Suites last summer ($110.00 a night) and I know that they have rooms with more that one bed...I'm just not sure on how much I want to gamble! We want to stay in Manhattan. Thoughts?I forgot to mention that I have also been looking into apartment rentals but I'd like to stick with something that I know is reputable. Thanks

kasey Posted April 27, 2008 Author Report Posted April 27, 2008 I'd like to find something under $200.00 a night. We booked last summer for $110.00 a night so I'd love to come close to that! We're not looking for lots of frills, just a safe place to sleep and shower since we'll be out most of the stay.

kasey Posted April 27, 2008 Author Report Posted April 27, 2008 If you search HOTWIRE for your dates for quad occupancy is anything offered within your budget? In Manhattan there is one that is just at our budget, probably over after fees and taxes. I've never used hotwire, it's hard to get over not using priceline since I know I'd get a better deal!

kasey Posted April 27, 2008 Author Report Posted April 27, 2008 what is the zone, price per night, star rating and amenities for this? There is a three star in midtown south with laundry, fitness, and kitchenette for $189.00 a night. Murray Hill Suites maybe?
thereuare Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 I've never used HOTWIRE, it's hard to get over not using PRICELINE since I know I'd get a better deal!Is it a better deal if you get a room with only one bed? Sometimes you have to consider your cirumstances and how to get the best deal given your constraints. The HOTWIRE hotel above is a match for the Murray Hill East Suites so that would be our best guess.Another option is to try for two rooms thru PRICELINE... might be able to do that for just a little more than your $200 maximum and would be more comfortable for 5 nites, as well as provide an extra bathroom which always helps when trying to get ready in the morning to get out for the day. (although if this were to be successful i don't think it can be done at the moment and would need lower priced inventory to be released)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and/or how it goes or if we can be of further help. kasey Posted April 27, 2008 Author Report Posted April 27, 2008 I went through the winning bids and saw that 90.00 has won the Murray Hill Suites in the past. We stayed there last summer for $110.00. Here's a question, my folks are leaving a day before us so we are there an extra night. I don't know how I would manage that on PRICELINE since I'd be bidding on two rooms at the same time. I've added a night before to our reservation but I am not always given that option. What do you think? On a different note. Since I am not that familiar with HOTWIRE, how often do their rates change?

What do you think? If you are given the option to add a nite, it has to be for both rooms... you won't be able to add a nite to just one room. You would have to bid for that nite separately... at the risk of having to change hotels for the last nite (or search for the last nite on HOTWIRE and see if it apepars and purchase there so as to not have to change properties)Since I am not that familiar with HOTWIRE, how often do their rates change?Rates can fluctuate from search to search by a marginal amount as HOTWIRE works on a variable mark-up, but can change substantially, and different hotels shown, as frequently as participating hotels change or adjust rates. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
