BECKI428 Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Ive been trying to win a hotel in the Hilton Head area for a few weeks starting at 60.00. At 92.00 I did recieve a counteroffer of $22.00. My winning bid for 7nights was $101.00 a night. Yeah!! :)
dahammer Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 That is an outstanding winning bid, you undercut the counteroffer by over half; the standard rates here are over $300 per night, well done and thanks for your post. This is a place that I would consider the $20 trick to get an upgrade to an oceanfront room. There are several bike rental shops on the island and a one week rental is about $25 delivered, this is a great way to see the island and there are bike trails throughout. You should also ask for a refrigerator in your room as well to keep your beer milk cold as the restaurant prices are typical of a resort.
BECKI428 Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 Thanks for the info! The 20.00 trick you are referring to though is when im checking in??? I am prepared to do that to get an upgrade -- I am hoping that will work and not have to pay a nightly charge for the upgrade. It worked at the Westin!! Also, do you know if Marriott will charge for a refrigerator?? Should i add that to my room now as a special request or wait until I arrive?? I think the last time the Westin was charging 10-15.00/nite...wasnt worth it for us then.
dahammer Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 I've never tried the $20 trick, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I would sign up for a Marriott Rewards card and along with your driver's license, make a dead president sandwich with a folded up twenty and hand it to the desk clerk, along with your best chamber of commerce smile as you inquire about an available upgrade: "Suzie, this is my first time on the island, do you have an oceanfront King/2 Queen room for me?" A colleague stayed here two years ago and I don't believe there was a charge for the refrigerator, you may want to do this after getting up to your room, you don't want to push the envelope too far :)
