ccandw Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 I need 1 room in london - prefer Knightsbridge/Kensington or Soho/Mayfair - but anywhere within close distance to the tube would be fine. 4* May 4th-6th but dates are a little flexible a day or two either way. Max $100.Editing to add two adults and two childrenThank you for any help!
blindman Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Welcome to Betterbidding. If you choose the (Kensington - Earls Court - Knightsbridge) area there is a good chance you will get the Hilton OlympiaThis is a good 15 minute walk to the nearest tube-however a number 9 or 10 bus stop is right outside. If you are not in a rush then the bus is a good way to travel as you get to see most sights if you sit upstiars and preferably at the front. It's also cheaper than the tube. Also the tube is undergoing major works and has planned closures that can affect travel.Look at the Wiki for more information. Not sure if $100 will get you a room in Soho\Mayfair.May the 5th is a "Bank Holiday" (public day off). This may work in your favour in that the business types will not be at work. Most PRICELINE hotels are near to Tube stations.
ccandw Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 If I expand (and increase my bid slightly), can you suggest an area or areas of London to focus on bidding? We will have a vehicle but prefer to use public transportation. Thanks again!
blindman Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 IMHO with London I'd pick an area that you do NOT want to be in as most are acceptable, just higher prices in Mayfair and possibly lowest in (Bloomsbury - Marble Arch)The car will be an expensive mill stone as parking in London can be from
WillTravel Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 With two adults and two children, I'd either bid for two rooms on PRICELINE, or use Hotw.ire and enter 2 adults and 2 children and search for 1 room, or employ some other strategy to get a quad room. The standard London PRICELINE hotel room will fit two adults, and no more. If you book conventionally, Holiday Inn often allows two children free under 18, but double-check on that. Holiday Inn Express includes a free breakfast. I agree with blindman about the car issue.
thereuare Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I'm not the expert at bidding strategies, thereuare is the man for that.Once acceptable zones are determined for this stay i can advise further, but getting around London is not my forte... maybe i'll have to plan a return trip to get better aquainted. :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
BEAV Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 We stayed at the Hilton Olympia last week and used the Kensington Olympia station, which was a stone's throw from the hotel. So close, in fact, we could see and hear the trains from our hotel window. We rode from Kensingon Olympia to Earl's Court station and connected there to reach various other parts of the city.
