I assume this buidling wasn't built by LQ and they likely took it over from another chain (or converted a building which was designed for some other use).

It use to be the Clarion Airport. It also is the better of the two La Quinta's. The other LQ use to be a Baymont. So if LQ says its the suites, then its the old Clarion.

Yeah, the Clarion! Thanks, Jason's Storm. I think it was probably another brand before Clarion, as newly built hotels don't usually open under the Clarion name. Does anyone know what it was before Clarion?

I drove past the other La Quinta in the zone, at 494 & Nicollet, and it looked sort of rundown, at least from the outside. The 2.5* Suites La Quinta where I stayed were pretty good. The room was fresh and I had a nice view on 8th floor with sliding glass door and a small balcony.

Yea if you think it looks bad on the outside, look at the reviews on tripadvisor.
