private joker
The average price might be $135 because of Friday and Saturday nights, which will be more expensive. If you split your bid, and do one for the Sun-Thurs dates -- you'll probably get under $100 for those nights -- and then a separate bid for the Fri/Sat dates -- where you'll get more like $140-ish -- then you'll get a better deal. But of course you risk having to move hotels for the weekend. Link to comment
Diamond Dog
So, unlike Hotwire, Priceline round everything up to the highest individual day? Okay, that makes it easier - but Hotwire don't do that, do they? And, if not, splitting my bid isn't going to help, is it?Thanks, by the way. Link to comment
dahammer
So, unlike Hotwire, Priceline round everything up to the highest individual day?your maximum bid must be equal to or more than the Priceline minimum "offer" for each day. This is why splitting you bid may work in your favor, but you could end up changing hotels. Weekend rates in Vegas are often double the weekday rate. Link to comment
Diamond Dog
Gotcha. Of course, I posted this in the Priceline forum, that's why everyone is giving me Priceline advice. :) I think they definitely want to stay in the same hotel for the whole week - that kind of rules out Priceline, I guess? So, if they have to bid on Hotwire, does anyone know any reason why the rooms are so expensive at the moment - is it generally that much more expensive in September than April-July (as seems to be the case), or is it a glitch that is likely to remedy itself over time? thereuare
Summer is slow season in Vegas... it picks up come Fall. As well, Vegas is a market, more so than most others, where prices are highly dependent upon conferences... so if there is a large conference during your stay, it will greatly inflate prices. During the stay above there is a NATIONAL MINING ASSOCIATION conference (9/22-9/24) with 36K attendees and an INTERBIKE EXPO (9/24-9/26) with 23K attendees. While these conferences are not 'outrageously' large by Vegas standards, they're not tiny either, and both could be affecting demand. Since these conference take place consecutively, after the weekend dates, it may make the midweek dates (which are usually lower) more inline with weekend rates. It's still very early so a lot can change, but at least this gives an explanation as to the prices you're seeing, and you can be realistic in your expected budget. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Diamond Dog
Thanks for that thereuare : those conferences would push prices up, so I may have to advise them of the worst.Still, they saved about $300 on their 3 nights in San Fran (thanks again) so that may cushion the blow... :) Link to comment

thereuare
Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. The above matches both the Flamingo and Ballys, so either of those would be our best guess. However, i'll point out that i'm not currenlty seeing this property on my own HOTWIRE search. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Diamond Dog
For just two adults? they're still there on mine?!This is about $100 less than booking direct through The Flamingo, and about $200 less than Ballys. Trouble is, I don't think they'd be overly impressed with Ballys. And, at least if they book through The flamingo site, it's refundable. Link to comment
thereuare
Ballys is a nicer property than the Flamingo... but the Flamingo has a nicer pool and grounds. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment

thereuare
Trouble is, I don't think they'd be overly impressed with Ballys. If there not going to be impressed with Ballys they're certainly not going to be impressed with a Condo off the strip.I don't know the ID of this property, and one possible reason is that i don't think we have ever seen anyone purchase any condo property in Vegas. Do your friends a favor and get them a hotel on the strip so that they get the "full las vegas exerperience". Diamond Dog
Are condos that bad? It's a question of price - nothing half decent is coming up at reasonable prices, yet. I'll keep looking. Link to comment
thereuare
Are condos that bad?You typically dont' go to Vegas, and certainly not your first time, to stay in a condo... you stay on the strip so that you walk out the hotel door and feel the pulse of the city.Vegas has turned into a "restaurant mecca" (granted, many of them are chains and others are 'famous' chefs who may not have been back in the kitchen since they cut the ribbon on the place), but there are still TONS of restaurants at every price point, so there's no need to seek out a condo in order to have a kitchen to cook in during a vegas vacation (one of the biggest appeals of condos is for those looking to cook their own meals on vacation in order to save money eating out... the other is large families who need the extra space). Regardless, a condo is "not where the action is" in Vegas. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
