are8 Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Hi everybody,I am going to be two days each in both paris and vienna. I want hotels that will require minimal transport (walking distance preferred) to city center attractions, becuse I dont have much time in either city. It is very hard for me to guage the distance from the priceline maps, plus I dont really know what "center" locations for the two cities would be.The bidding areas for vienna are:It seems this city is much smaller than paris so any area will work for me???City CenterSouth WestThe bidding areas for paris are:Bastille-BercyBatignolles-Montmarte-RepubliqueChamps Elysees-Opera Quarter West (from what I have read, this is the most desirable "central" area, but also the hardest to get a got pricleline rate on??Eiffel Tower-Grenelle-MontparnasseLa Defense-Neuilly (seems pretty far away)Opera Quarter East-Les HallesSt. Germain-Latin Quarter-MontparnasseThank you so much for your advice! Please feel free to add advice on where I should visit from various hotel locations!
WillTravel Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Paris:For walking, I'd say Opera Quarter East-Les Halles is the most central area. If you got the northwest part of St. Germain-Latin Quarter-Montparnasse, that would also be really central, but it's very unlikely you'd get a 4* hotel there (and maybe not a 3*). Eiffel Tower-Grenelle-Montparnasse includes a portion that is really not central, but part of it is quite central. But I wouldn't risk it.Champs Elysees-Opera Quarter West will mostly give you hotels that aren't very central, but okay with the metro. For Bastille-Bercy and Batignolles-Montmarte-Republique, parts of these would be somewhat central (but not extremely) and parts would be quite uncentral. La Defense-Neuilly is definitely far away. If you really want a centrally located hotel, the best bet is to book it directly, or maybe use HOTWIRE in a few very specific zones, or stick to 4* in Opera Quarter East-Les Halles. As for what to see, what interests you?
are8 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 Thank you so much for the prompt response. Truth be told, my favorite places to visit are not cities at all, but small historic village type places that will have a specialty associated with it (a type of cheese, or special natural attraction). As far as cities go, I would be most interested in the old historic areas where you would be able to see the most historic buildings.
