3* Newark (Secaucus-Meadowlands) La Quinta Inn and Suites Clifton, $51 Dates May 24-May31, Won on Feb. 19

Amenities: Complimentary Breakfast, Pool, Hi-Speed Internet, Laundry

So, I got this property on February 19 for me, my wife, and my daughter to visit NYC from May 24-31. Seemed like a pretty good deal, but I'm a little worried about transportation into the city. Called the hotel, and they advised that a bus ran pretty regularly into the city from a few blocks away, and after looking at google earth, it appears that a train station is less than 1/4 mile away from the hotel. However, I received an email advising that the property was being downgraded from a 3* to a 2.5*. I was offered the choice of a full refund or $175 in HOTDOLLARS. The reviews of this hotel are mixed on tripadvisor. Has anyone stayed here recently? It looks like the cost into the city is reasonable (round trip, depending on bus or train, at $5-$7 per person per day) Any thoughts?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

While there are certainly better hotels in the area, for your net cost of $26/nite (after the $25 hot Dollars offered by HOTWIRE) i don't think you'll find anything of better value for you money than this at this time of year.

I would keep the reservation, but do be aware that the hotel is on a highway, so i'm not exactly sure you would be able to walk to the train station <safely>. I'm familiar with the area, which train station is it that's nearby? (Rutherford?)

Delawanna train station.

I would also stay here as well, it has a pool and free breakfast. You could always drive to the North Bergen Park and Ride about 5 miles away, parking and one round trip bus fare is $8.25. Additional adult bus fares are $4.80. There are plenty of busses leaving and returning from this locatoin.

The hotel is not so bad, I stayed there. The free breakfast is not bad. The only thing I did not like is that someone was smoking and I could smell it all out in the hallway. I was there in the winter. December 29-31. For $25 a night, you really can't beat it.
