pterrell Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Want to visit mom and dad Thursday to Monday, but Hotwire and hotel web sites showed crazy pricing and availability. And my Priceline bidding proved it.Started bidding for 3* at $40 with $2 increments, giving up at $60. La Quinta showed no availablity for Saturday & Sunday, and high pricing on Hotwire for Friday. So I tried a low-ball bid 2* at $40 for Thursday and got it. I was offered an extended stay for $73 and rejected it!!Ended up splitting my stay in Fresno at the Holiday Inn. But that's fine 'cause I've got stuff to do downtown Friday and then I'll be closer for the rest of the days. And the wife will have to repack the suitcase.Used the Savingsbarn.com link...Your Offer Price: $40.00Number of Rooms: 1Number of Nights: 1Subtotal: $40.00Taxes and Service Fees: $12.25Total Charges*: $52.25Colfax: I wonder if I'm going to get a fridge and microwave this time. :-)

The nice desk clerk that remembered me from previous trips switched rooms for me when I asked if a room with a microwave was available. Which is great 'cause the wife decided that she wanted a Chicago pizza for lunch and then only ate a couple of slices. That will keep her going as she watches HBO for the rest of the evening.
Colfax Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 My Ouija board is now telling me that Chicago style pizza is all gone. :)

pterrell Posted March 8, 2008 Author Report Posted March 8, 2008 Yes, there's Chicago-style pizza in Fresno...if you bring it from the Bay Area. Before making the drive to Fresno, we stopped at the "new" Zachary's Chicago Pizza that opened up a mile from our suburban home. And I'm glad to report that the San Ramon branch, after a year, has finally hit the taste of their original Berkeley location. And we had ordered a medium, so it did last us until lunch yesterday. And it was a youth wrestling tournament at the convention center that caused the lack of discount rooms downtown and the price bump for the weekend. I had to go back to the La Quinta in the afternoon to retrieve a forgotten item and had to wait as a group of twenty kids and chaperones checked in. And when I checked into the Holiday Inn, there was another group of twenty! The clerk said that a few rooms were still available, but all the doubles were filled.
