honghong Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I'm just starting a thread to keep track the progress. It's the first weekend in June. It might be a little early to start bidding now, but the online prices of various hotels are around $250 - $400.I am from Boston and plan to drive down there, but if I get a good deal, I will most likely take the bus and just ride the subway around.Anywhere in Manhattan is fine, but I would like to make the best use of my $200 budget.thanks!
honghong Posted March 3, 2008 Author Report Posted March 3, 2008 I will be using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links provided on this site while bidding! =) Thanks for the help everyone! I'll keep an updated status on how things are going!
thereuare Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! Are you willing to pay more for a 4 star vs. a 3 star or are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better hotel for your dates? Is Downtown an acceptable zone as well? Is your maximum purchase price (before taxes and fees) $200 or is your maximum $200 'all-in'?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
honghong Posted March 4, 2008 Author Report Posted March 4, 2008 Thanks for the reply! I have checked the list of hotels available for 3* and 4*. I think that a 3* hotel will suit perfectly fine. In my case I guess I would be looking at the least expensive 3* and/or best value 3* available.I don't mind staying in downtown at all, as long as it's in Manhattan, everything is a short train ride/cab ride away. Lets keep my maximum at $200. Surely we don't have to use up all that if we don't have to =)Edit - Here are some prices I checked for those dates just to give a little baseline.Hilton NY $259/nightMillenium Hilton $237.5/nightGrand Hyatt $418/2 night weekend stay by purchasing the gift certificate(comes with breakfast both mornings for two) Online price of $272/nightAnother question. Is it worth it for me to drive down from Boston or just to take a bus? I hear the parking fees are outrageous as in 50 bucks/day. I plan to take the subway while I'm in the city anyway.
thereuare Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 As far as how to get to the city, it depends how you feel about bus travel. I don't mind it and with RT rates from Boston to NYC at $40 and under i would take the bus. I'd rather be able to close my eyes, eat a sandwich, and not have to concentrate on the raod for 4 hours while somebody else does the driving. At currnet rates it's probably cheaper than driving yourself (even before you factor in parking charges). On the other hand, ask my wife that same question, and she won't take the bus and would prefer to drive :)To bid this stay, you have two re-bid zones available when bidding 3* in NYC. honghong Posted March 4, 2008 Author Report Posted March 4, 2008 My rebid zones are Long Island City and the Upper West Side I'm guessing going by the hotel lists? Will report back if I get anything nice!
jluff Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 Actually, if you take the chinese buses that leave South Station and go direct to China Town NYC, then you will only pay $15 each way.LuckyStar and Fungwah are the two bus lines. They leave every hour on the hour. It is the best deal to NYC going from Boston. I have done it several times. No gas costs, no tolls, or bridge fees, no parking costs. Drops you off 2 blocks from Little Italy. Just jump on the N Line to Midtown.
honghong Posted March 4, 2008 Author Report Posted March 4, 2008 Thanks for the suggestion! I'm very familiar with those. I might plan to take the greyhound. It's 38 dollars round trip haha.. Sure, 8 bucks more!
honghong Posted March 4, 2008 Author Report Posted March 4, 2008 My girlfriend and I are flexible on dates. We can do 6/5 - 6/7 as well as 6/7 - 6/9Would either of these be "better" for bidding?
thereuare Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 My rebid zones are Long Island City and the Upper West Side I'm guessing going by the hotel lists?No... from the Priceline Hotel List:DO NOT USE THIS LIST to determine what areas to add when attempting to bid again within the 24 hour window...The proper way to check your re-bid zones is here: Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedPlease confirm your re-bid zones with the board or ask any questions that you may have. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
honghong Posted March 5, 2008 Author Report Posted March 5, 2008 Ok, I think I got it. There are no 3* hotels available in Long Island City, Upper Eastside, and Upper West Side. Just missed one thank goodness. I did my first round of bidding tonight at $120, $125, and $130. No luck getting anything. Didn't expect anything either, will try again in a coupole days.
thereuare Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 You are correct on your re-bid zones, but you can still follow the above as reaching your maximum bid is not an issue given the number of zones you're willing to accept.Keep us update and thanks in advance for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.
