pterrell Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Again, a low price on the Holiday Inn! Started bidding yesterday at $40 for a 2* in Fresno, bumping things up $1 each time with split dates and added zones. When I got to $49, I restarted 3* Airport and got the Holiday Inn.The La Quinta wasn't showing up on HOTWIRE, so either it's changed amenities or wasn't available. So no fridge or microwave on this trip. :)Your Offer Price: $49.00Number of Rooms: 1Number of Nights: 4Subtotal: $196.00Taxes and Service Fees: $33.86Total Charges*: $229.86
Colfax Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 So no fridge or microwave on this trip.Oh no! The Patriots lost and pterrell has broken his string of free upgrades at La Quinta! My condolences. :)
thereuare Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Thanks for the report.Time to fill up the tub with ice like the rest of us! :)Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
pterrell Posted February 7, 2008 Author Report Posted February 7, 2008 Thanks for the ribbing from both of you experienced travellers. I was disappointed that I didn't get the La Quinta only in that I was enjoying the "game" of getting an upgraded room. But then I'm nostalgic about the Fresno Airpot Holiday Inn -- when I was a kid, the "better off" next-door neighbor would take my brother and I there with her daughter to swim in the inside pool, while she enjoyed a drink poolside. Colfax: I looked up your amazing trail of posts. It looks like you spend most of your time on the road!! I'm jealous. There's a part of me that hopes the next job sends me traveling around the US, useing Priceline to extend the company stipend.

There's a part of me that hopes the next job sends me traveling around the US, useing Priceline to extend the company stipend.I like travelling and I enjoy hotel living. I feel fortunate that my job involves a lot of both. Sometimes I'm envious of people who lead more settled lives than me. The grass is alwasy greener... But when I've "settled down" it's never lasted long. One of the places I stayed longest was Fresno, oddly enough. I lived there almost three years, in the same apartment the whole time. I have many happy memories of Fresno. Never made it to the pool at the Holiday Inn though. Thanks for sharing your Fresno (and other) wins here, pterrell.
pterrell Posted February 10, 2008 Author Report Posted February 10, 2008 I've got a room with a fridge and a microwave. :) It turns out that the rooms I was warned about for the overflow Priceline folks arent' too bad. Rather then a storage room, it turns out to be a "parlor" for an adjoining room. It has a mini-bar with a fridge. The only drawback is that the bed is a roll away couch with a very poor mattress. But I've had worse, such as spending two weeks a year sleeping on the floor of the "Japanese" room at my in-laws place. One more drawback was that the bed wasn't made and a security guard brought over the linens as the housekeeper had gone home sick.As to the microwave, it's mine...my parents commented theire microwave wasn't working well, so I dropped by Costco to get them a new one. I'm just "testing" it for the next couple of days. But it looks great above the fridge. And the fridge and microwave make the stay better for my wife. She enjoys staying in the hotel room, heating the previous nights dinner leftovers and popping popcorn, while I'm off dealing with my folks. And we bring along a hot water bottle for tea 'cause the coffee pots are tainted with coffee. I get my exercise hauling stuff from the car to the room.
