MartinMcfly Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 For three nights I have been bidding on a 4* airport room for 1/14 - 1/17.First two nights rejected up to $61.00Tonight rejected up to $64.00. However, I got a $17 counter offer stating at my $59 bid. But I am holding out for $65 or less.Any comments or tips?McFly :) Oh BTW - always use the savings barn for Priceline bids.
thereuare Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Thanks for trying your bids thru the PRICELINE links at SavingsBarn.comUnless you'd be happy eventually lowering your star rating to a 3* property I wouldn't be waiting to see if this price comes to you and i'd conitnue to bid higher as i think the risk outweighs the savings. If the hotel currenlty available for $76 raises rates for just one of your nites while you continue to wait, then the price needed for all three nites may go up. You're basically, most likley, looking at the Hyatt or the Sheraton, both of which are $175-$200/nite for your dates above. You won't have to go as high as $76 to be successful, but even at that rate you're looking at $100 savings per nite over the cost of a conventionally booked room. So you''re going to risk losing out on $100 savings per nite so that you can hopefully save an extra ~$5 per nite when your stay is just a week away... not worth the risk to me, but it's your stay and you know your budget better than i do. Colfax Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Is the Marriott in San Mateo allrite with you? Priceline rates it 4* and you might win it for less than you've already bid. It's about ten minute drive from Airport zone and they have free airport shuttle. If you're interested I'd suggest starting around $52 or $55 for 4* San Mateo.
MartinMcfly Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 Thank you Colfax (and Thereuare) for the tips. Colfax - that was a very valuable bit of information. I wasn't aware of the close proximity of Marriott in San Mateo to the airport. That is great news. I will definitely bid on that.Colfax and Thereuare - isn't it true that when you get a counter offer from Priceline that you can almost always win a room for about half of the counter offer?
MartinMcfly Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 Marriott in San Mateo is not biting this morning. Rejected up to $63. :) I will continue to alternate between SFO and San Mateo. Thanks!
