Started bidding at $41, the previously accepted low for La Quinta, and got it on first bid.

The wife has been happy that La Quinta has been putting us in rooms with microwaves and fridges. So we saved some cash last time by nuking some groceries. And their breakfast is OK for a couple of days.

Your Offer Price: $41.00

Number of Rooms: 1

Number of Nights: 2

Subtotal: $82.00

Taxes and Service Fees: $18.14

Total Charges*: $100.14

We were given a room without a microwave and fridge, so I went back to the clerk and said that the last two times we'd been at the La Quinta, we had a room with them and that having them was the reason we'd gone with the La Quinta instead of the Radisson. She said that I should have only gotten a "normal" room as the "upgrade" rooms were $10 more, but that she'd upgrade me no charge since it was Christmas and they weren't full.

Now the second room smelled of smoke and we're sensitive about that, but we said it's a La Quinta and we paid $41 and we'd live with it. :)

Microwave and fridge aren't standard at La Quinta. Where they exist LQ usually charges more for those rooms.

It's great that you got a microwave and fridge for free, but it's not something you should expect at every La Quinta, especially when you're there on Priceline.

Colfax, thanks for the advice. As a Priceline user, I know it's sometimes a gamble. But then, I also have the courage to ask if a better room is available. On my trip to Chicago, the Hilton Garden Inn put me in a room with a single and it smelled of smoke. I asked for a switch to a room with a double . They couldn't do it the first night, but they could on the second night. And I got it by asking. :)

I sure don't object to asking for the amenities that will make your stay more comfortable---be it a fridge, a king bed, a view, whatever. I do it all the time. The worst a hotel can do is say no.

I just wanted to clarify for others who might not be familiar with La Quinta that fridge and microwave aren't standard amenities at LQ and not getting them isn't evidence of "Priceline attitude".
