priceline to san francisco/oakland

im trying to go to san francisco to see the bowl game this year...i can leave from philly and get to either san fran or oakland any day at any time so im hoping priceline will work for me but im confused as to how it works. The game is the 28th at 830 pm so ideally id like to arrive on the 26th or 27th and then leave around the 31st but i really wouldnt care if i got there on the 25th (xmas is not an issue) or if i returned on the 30th...can someone explain how priceline works/what steps i should take?

How much would you need to save to make an opauqe purchase worthwhile? (ie- given that you can't choose your routing, connection cities, layover, etc... although i'm afraid to say it, could the outbound above get much worse?... are 2 connections and over 10 hours traveling time worthwhile vs. the next best option with better routing)

id like it as inexpensive as possible, and i dont mind any routing, connection cities, layovers...doesnt matter at all to me just as long as im there for the bowl game on the 28th and have some money in my pocket for a ticket
