secretid Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Hey guys, I read all the various "read before posting" threads. I guess this is where I go for bidding help?I'm looking for a hotel in the LAX area, though I'm flexible to zones nearby. A company is flying me out an reimbursing me. They recommended a place that is $79/night. I'd basically like to get the nicest place I can while staying below $79/night.My Hotwire search yielded a $63, 3.5 star and a $99, 4 star in the LAX area.If someone can recommend a bidding strategy or other advice I'd appreciate it. Thanks!PS - I'll probably make a separate thread for it later, but I may be looking for a place the night before as well, on my own dime (aka as cheap as possible).
secretid Posted November 28, 2007 Author Report Posted November 28, 2007 PS - A hot tub is a huge plus, but I realize we don't have much control here. :)
thereuare Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 What are the HOTWIRE amenities associated with the 3.5* you're being offered?Did you want to bid for this stay vs. going with HOTWIRE? secretid Posted November 28, 2007 Author Report Posted November 28, 2007 Amenities for the 3.5 star: Hotel AmenitiesAirport ShuttleFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterLaundry FacilitiesHigh-speed Internet AccessDepending on what hotel that is, I would like to bid. However it looks like the Westin (the most common 4* in the LAX area) gets a ton of bad reviews. And between the parking and internet charges would end up costing quite a bit of money. I'd probably prefer to go for a lower-rated hotel at a lower price if that's the likely 4* option.
thereuare Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 The 3.5* HOTWIRE offer above is a match for both the Westin and the Hilton, so it could be either (or some other hotel not yet reported). However, i believe that the above is much more likely to be the Hilton than the Westin (at least the one i'm seeing on my own search). If you go for the above please use this HOTWIRE link to begin any purchases you make.Do you want to go for the above or try bidding on Priceline? secretid Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 I think I'm officially being difficult at this point, but I've actually done a lot of research and decided to go for the Residence Inn Manhattan Beach (cheap, free parking, free internet, great reviews). I'm willing to settle for any of the other 2.5*+ hotels in that area if that's how it goes.I've seen people winning it for $45-$50 so I was going to bid $45 and then there's a small area I forget the name of that I should be able to use for a rebid ($50?) because it only has up to 2*s. If I fail I can wait and go up tomorrow. Good plan?
Colfax Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Good plan. The zone that only goes to 2* (aka your "free rebid zone") is Lawndale. Please start your bids with the PRICELINE link at SavingsBarn.com. Doing that helps support this board, and at no additional cost to you.
secretid Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 I'm not sure how to modify the subject line. Sorry if I missed the instructions2.5* Los Angeles (Redondo-Manhattan Beaches) Residence Inn Manhattan Beach$45 12/2 - 12/3I guess I should've gone lower. My first bid went through. The reviews of this place are great though and the price is even better.PS - I made sure to use the savingsbarn.com link. Thanks guys!
