thereuare Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Also, is the purpose of this stay a cheap substitute for staying in Manhattan? If so, what is your maximum budget per nite for this trip, as there may be better options than LIC (which isn't a very 'nice' or attractive area, imo) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
conny Posted November 2, 2007 Author Report Posted November 2, 2007 Thank you for your interest! The rates are as follows:2-star hotel: $822.5-star hotel: $109Our budget is actually very limited. It will be a pre-cruise stay and the cruise has already absorbed almost all of it (smile). We could afford no more than $150 including tax. Also, we are from Europe and it is our first time in the States, so a a hotel offering organized tours of NYC would be just fine. The same applies to any suggestion you may have!Thank you,Conny
thereuare Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 I'm assuming that is $150 per nite, correct?Which airport are you flying in to? Which port (Manhattan, Bayonne, Brooklyn/Red Hook) are you departing from? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
conny Posted November 3, 2007 Author Report Posted November 3, 2007 Certainly, $150 per nite.We are flying in to JFK, and departing from Brooklyn. But we have heard not so encouraging opinions about Brooklyn (smile), so we take our chances with another place to stay.
thereuare Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 I think you have a chance at getting a nice hotel in Jersey City for your stay... if not, you can get something if you can extend your budget $10/nite (and i think you'll be a LOT happier here than in Long Island City). Not sure if you've thought ahead about how you will get from JFK to your hotel, but if by taxi then cab fare to Jersey City will cost a bit more than to Long Island City, although if you're traveling light (ie- can roll/carry your bags on a train) there are ways to save a few dollars on the commute. From Jersey City to the Red Hook Cruise Port would be a short ride, but again, there are ways to save some money, such as taking the PATH train into Manhattan (with your luggage) and then grabbing a NYC taxi to take you to the pier.Let us know if this is an option and we'll advise accordingly. jmw2323 Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Worked in LIC for a while. Not any place I'd want to spend evenings in.
