SteveR Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 My wife and I are planning on spending Thanksgiving in Paris, traveling via train from Frankfurt. Neither of us are familiar with the city so we will be doing the normal tourist stuff. We are looking for a 4* hotel. From reading previous posts it looks like we should be able to do that for around $100 US/night, but I wasn't sure where to start bidding. Since we don't know the city, we aren't picky on a specific area, but we would would like to be closer to the center of town. I was hoping for a recommendation for which zones to chose and a bidding strategy.Cheers,Steve
thereuare Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! We are looking for a 4* hotel. From reading previous posts it looks like we should be able to do that for around $100 US/night...I'm not sure which zone(s) you're willing to bid this may be a bit optimistic for a 4* in a decent location.Once you decide upon the zones you're willing to accept let us know your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. SteveR Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 I am willing to bid any of the zones as long as they are in a decent part of town. Can you recommend any? Maximum bid is $150/night. Thanks.
SteveR Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 I did some looking and any of these zones should be fine. Bastille, Champs Elysees, Eiffel Tower, Opera Quarter East, St Germain.
WillTravel Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Did you note that the Eiffel Tower zone also includes the Sofitel Porte de Sevres, which is actually a little outside the city borders of Paris?
thereuare Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 SteveR,Based upon WillTravel's reply, do you want to include the Eiffel Tower zone? Just want to confirm before suggesting a strategy for you to follow. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
SteveR Posted October 26, 2007 Author Report Posted October 26, 2007 Hmm, probably not then if there is a chance of ending up outside the city borders.
thereuare Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 So to confirm:4* $150 max in any of the following:BastilleChamps ElyseesOpera Quarter EastSt GermainThat's correct? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
SteveR Posted October 26, 2007 Author Report Posted October 26, 2007 So to confirm:4* $150 max in any of the following:BastilleChamps ElyseesOpera Quarter EastSt GermainThat's correct?Yes, that is correct. Thanks!
WillTravel Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I'd also figure out what the best-deal, acceptable option is before bidding. Just as a quick example, the Concorde Montparnasse (right across from the Le Meridien Montparnasse) has a prepaid rate of 124 Euros including tax for your dates. That equates to a bid of about $160 on Priceline (after taxes, fees and currency exchange are considered). The Concorde Montparnasse has never come up on Priceline to my knowledge, but I just wanted to mention it as a possible option. It's quite likely, given such rates, that you'll be able to do better on Priceline.
thereuare Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 SteveR,Your thoughts based upon the above? :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
SteveR Posted October 27, 2007 Author Report Posted October 27, 2007 I was really hoping to get it for less than that (closer to $100/night) on priceline. If not, that is a good fall back option.
thereuare Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 So now you're back to a $100 maximum bid? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
