opus Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I have reviewed the Board messages and already snagged a room at the Sheraton Gateway for $55 in December, I see other people have got in the same price range at the same hotel.Needless to say I'm being greedy ;-)However the convenience of not having to leave the hotel is a big draw.I just tried to book a 4* YYZ Airport room at $55 and was rejected. Perhaps it's a busy weekend or the Sheraton is reading the messages here but can anyone suggest a bidding strategy for me? I'm not set on the Sheraton but it would be good to get again, however the budget on this is $65any ideas are welcome
tilepusher Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 What are the check-in/check-out dates for your stay?
opus Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 What are the check-in/check-out dates for your stay?Whoops! Guess that's important too...Check in Nov 9Check out Nov 101 room2 people
thereuare Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Rates are date specific...If you search the Sheraton website you'll see that rate are $20CAD more expensive for the date above than the date you previously won.HOTWIRE has a 4* in the airport zone for $59/nite, however, best guess is that it is the Hilton, which is a 3* on Priceline. Would you want to cap your bidding at $59 and go for this property on HOTWIRE if you fail, or would you want to keep your maximum bid at $65?Let us know and we'll advise as to how ot best proceed. opus Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 So you're saying that if I want to get the Sheraton on Priceline I'd have to consider a $75 bid minimum. Perhaps I should follow the Hotwire advice and take the $59 Hilton - it's only a 4 minute shuttle ride... ;-)thanks for the advice
thereuare Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I'm not saying that you'd have to consider at least a $75 bid, but rather pointing out the reason for the rejection for the date above. It could take less than $75 (just as the room rate is discounted from 'traditional' rates, maybe the $20 difference is discounte as well) OR it could take more than $75 (perhaps the hotel has a 'threshold'... when we're at 70% occupancy (just to pick a percentage) we raise our hotel-direct rate from the 'base' and stop releasting inventory to the opaque suppliers). If you do go for the HOTWIRE property (best guess the Hilton, but never any guarantees) please use this HOTWIRE link to begin any purchases you make.Let us know what you decide or if we can be of further help. opus Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 Thanks for the advice again. Priceline sent me email suggesting I rebid, I tried $60 and was rejected again, so I used your HOTWIRE Link to get the $59 room which turned out to be The Hilton.

opus Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 As other peoplr have mentioned the hotel is undergoing some renovation, but that just reduces the value in my mind. Frankly I don't see this as offerring much more than the Quality Inn on Carlingview which I see was won with the same pricing recently.Sure...here's the list of amenitiesAirport Shuttle - Free both ways, but pulls up at the 'back door' with no canopy from rainFitness Center - not sure if it is availableRestaurant(s) - good food and service, but dark and in need of updatingBusiness Center - did not use or see itHigh-speed Internet Access - $12.95/dayGolf Nearby - no ideaTennis Nearby - no ideaWe did get a room on the 9th floor away from the lifts and it was adequate, but nothing above expectation and less than expected for 4* ratings. Two bottles of water were provided gratis, which is always welcome. All in all good value at $59 - I would not have been happy paying full price for this. Thanks for all the help everyone.
