modmagellan Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 Hey guys,Is it too late for me to be surfing on hotwire and priceline since I'm looking for a hotel in San Diego for this weekend?Coronado or Gaslamp area, 4-star.Should I expect to pay an arm and a leg for a room since it's just a few days away?Which one can be trusted more? Hotwire or P-line? :)Thanks!
Colfax Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 Hotwire and Priceline allow same day hotel reservations, so it's definitely not too late to book something. Sometimes the best deals happen near the last minute. Both services have their advantages and neither works best in every circumstance. If by "this weekend" you mean Friday Oct 12 and Saturday Oct 13...Hotwire doesn't have anything in Coronado for those dates. HOTWIRE has a 4* in the Gaslamp for $229 that looks like the Marriott Gaslamp. But Marriott Gaslamp's regular price is $259; so $229's not a significant savings. In this case I think you'll do better on Priceline.Be advised that Priceline's Downtown-Harbor Island zone is much larger than just the Gaslamp. You could win a hotel that's Downtown but not in the Gaslamp; or even the 4* Sheraton on Harbor Island, which isn't really Downtown at all (but only a ten minute drive away). If you're okay with staying anywhere in Priceline's Downtown-Harbor Island zone (not just the Gaslamp) then you can probably win a 4* on Priceline for around $90-$140.If you don't want the non-Gaslamp areas of Downtown you're better off bidding for a 4* on Coronado. The Marriott Coronado is $235 for your dates and I suspect $90-$140 is the general bidding range there too. Please indicate what route you want to go and someone can supply a strategy. Also indicate what your bidding limit is.
modmagellan Posted October 9, 2007 Author Report Posted October 9, 2007 Hi Colfax and thanks.Ideally, I'd like it to be in Coronado but as long as it's a four star there or Downtown San Diego then that should be good. It's an anniversary trip for my folks so I need to make sure they're happy. I've been bidding on Priceline but have gone all the way up to $190 for 4 star Coronado and Downtown. The prices you wrote - 90 to 140 - are much lower than that. If I could get that, I'd be extremely happy. Can you or others helps out? Thanks again!!
