tvtv Posted October 7, 2007 Report Posted October 7, 2007 taking my two daughters to CA in Feb. We want to stay 2 or 3 days in the Newport-Laguna area and the rest anywhere from Santa Monica to Hollywood for the rest of the days. Looking for 3 or 4 star hotels. Thanks.
Colfax Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 It might be too early to win February 2008 dates yet but if you're sure of your plans why not try?For advice you'll need to decide your exact dates in Newport/Laguna and in LA area. Also what's your bidding limit for each set of dates? Also I don't know your daughters' ages but will it work if you win a room with one bed? Priceline only guarantees double occupancy, which could be a room with one double bed. Most hotels will be able to offer you two beds or a rollaway, but it's not guaranteed and there might be an additional charge, depending on the hotel. If you require two beds HOTWIRE might be the better route to go, as you can stipulate a party of 3 on Hotwire and only be offered rooms with 2 beds.
tvtv Posted October 8, 2007 Author Report Posted October 8, 2007 must have two beds. will the hotels offer one bed and two cots for no or little charge? I'm up to $125 for 4* in both regions. so far no deal. how far in advance do the hotels start giving rooms to Priceline. Thanks.
Colfax Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 After you decide which days you'll be in which zones we can look at specific two bed possibilities under $125 in both. Some hotels are known for not giving inventory to Priceline or Hotwire until days or weeks in advance. There are a lot of hotels in Southern Cali though, so that shouldn't discourage you from bidding now, IF your travel dates are firm. Priceline and Hotwire reservations are nonchangeable and nonrefundable.
tvtv Posted October 8, 2007 Author Report Posted October 8, 2007 dates are firm. should I just keep bidding every 3 days? I'm bidding in newport, laguna and laguna hills then hollywood, bev hills and santa monica. is 125 too low for 4*?

Colfax Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 Within your five day trip which specific days do you want to stay in LA? Hotel rates are date specific so we need exact dates in order to offer suggestions. Please start a separate thread in the Orange County-Priceline section of the board for whichever days you want to stay in Newport/Laguna.If you're still not sure which days you'll be in which area please post back when your itinerary is firm.
tvtv Posted October 9, 2007 Author Report Posted October 9, 2007 Santa Monica to Hollywood feb. 19-22nd 4*taking my two daughters to CA in Feb. will stay anywhere from Santa Monica to Hollywood between feb. 19-22nd. could 4* be had for $125-150? thanks.
thereuare Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 anywhere from Santa Monica to HollywoodTo avoid any confusion, exactly which priceline zones, by name, are you willing to bid?I'll also assume that your fine bidding on priceline for double occupancy when you'll actually be triple occupancy. tvtv Posted October 12, 2007 Author Report Posted October 12, 2007 what's the rough rule of thumb of when is too far away from travel date to bid? thanks
blindman Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 what's the rough rule of thumb of when is too far away from travel date to bid? thanksNot surprisingly this is a FAQBottom line. When your plans are firm and you've done the research re hotels, areas and prices, then bid. Some places like Vegas only tend to open up rooms to HW or Pl about 4-6 weeks away, whilst others open up the inventory as far out as 12 months.Post your trip details, budget, dates area etc and we'll give advice.
tvtv Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 newport to lauguna feb 17-19th then santa monica to hollywood 19th-22nd. Myself with 2 children. looking for 4*.

Colfax Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Since you want two beds I looked on HOTWIRE, where you can guarantee two beds by inputting "3 adults".Is the Brentwood-Westwood area allright with you?HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in their BevHills-Westwood-Century City zone with two beds for $149. Amenity icons match the Hotel Angeleno, which generally gets good reviews. Angeleno's regular price for a two bed room is $229.You might be able to win the same hotel for less than $149 by bidding on Priceline for a 3* in the Brentwood-Westwood zone. I'm guessing $100-$120. But no guarantee of two beds on Priceline. All of HOTWIRE's 4* hotels with two beds guaranteed cost more than your $150 limit now. 4* in BevHills is $189.
