Unfortunately Salem doesn't have any free rebid zones, so you only get one chance to bid for a 3* every 24 hours.

Your stay is still 10 days away so you've got time to try a few lowball bids if you like.

I suggest $45 for a 3* in Salem, then go up $5 every 24 hours. If you're eager to secure something soon you could start around $50 (still less than half the Red Lion's rate) and go up $10 per day.

I won a bid of $55 for a 2*. It is the Keizer Renaissance Inn in Keizer OR. We should probably add this to the hotel list. Here is how I got there.

Yesterday I bid $45 for a 3* and was given a counter offer to add $13 to my bid for acceptance. Instead I added a 2* and bid $46. It was denied.

Today I increased my bid to $50 for a 3* and was given a counter offer add $19 and be accepted. Instead I added a 2* and increased bid to $55. This was accepted. :)

I know I bid incorrectly and probably overpaid for this 2* room, but overall the location and amenities it has looks ok. The hotels published rates for the same nights are $83.99.

As long as you don't mind the short drive from Keizer to Salem I think this might actually work out better than the Red Lion. The Salem Red Lion has some VERY small rooms, uncomfortably small, and every time I've won the Red Lion on Priceline that's the kind of room I got. The last time they offered to upgrade me to a larger room for an additional fee.

The Renaissance in Keizer used to be the Wittenberg Inn and as such it had excellent reviews. It's a much newer hotel than the Red Lion and while I haven't stayed there I suspect the rooms will be larger and fresher than the Red Lion's. Please let us know how you liked the Renaissance after your stay.

p.s. Although I don't think there's any chance someone would mistake the Keizer Renaissance for a Renaissance hotel owned by Intercontinental I'm still surprised Intercontinental didn't object to the Wittenberg's new name.

I know that this is a very old bid, but I thought I would update a review on this hotel. As you said, the rooms were very large. It was actually more of a one bedroom suite. there was a seperate living area that included a pull out couch, microwave, tv and refrigerator. This was seperate from the bedroom which was small but had its own TV. The bathroom was also small, but the sink and vanity were out near the living area so you could have one showering while the other was getter ready. Alltogether, I thought this was a great hotel. Not top of the line, but very spacious and clean and perfect for us since we were travelling with a small child.
