This was an excellent deal. I bid $51, and on the day of arrival, rooms were going for $160.

The hotel is located at 2301 Eighth Avenue.

The reviews say it has been refurbished relatively recently, and I think that's the case. It seems to be going for a bit of high-endedness, with staff in uniform and classical music playing in the lobby.

We were given a room with two double beds. These beds are rather on the small side, and would not really fit two adults that comfortably. I asked for a rollaway, and although it took some time to arrive, we finally got it. We were not charged extra for it.

There were lots of towels, the room was clean, the TV channel selection was good, the room temperature was good (and appears adjustable with a heater/air conditioner, although we didn't use it).

You get a free continental breakfast. This is not the best ever, but you can make reasonably good choices from the eggs, yogurt, whole-grain toast, cereals, several types of fruit, juice, coffee etc. There are make your own waffles.

While we were there, there seemed to be a group of French-speaking city planners, as well as some English-speaking city planners, presumably for a conference or tour.

It's about 14 blocks to Pike Place Market, and about 7 to the Space Needle. The neighborhood is gentrifying, as there is a new Whole Foods and Pan Pacific Hotel less than two blocks away, and a luxury Hyatt hotel is being built about two blocks away in the other direction, and lots of condo construction. But it's not quite completely gentrified, although I noticed nothing unsafe.

I'd love to get this deal again.
