skyhead Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Hello, I'm a new member trying to take in all the information this board has to offer. I'm taking a vegas vacation with the wife Jan 16-19 2008. This will be our second trip to vegas. the first time we stayed at Excalibur and was not real thrilled with the rooms. So this time I'd like to get the most for our money. We're not big gamblers but we'd like to see the nightlife and sights of the strip. My questions are, when is the best time to book this room? Should I use Priceline or Hotwire?, what is the area I need to choose? I really only have $150 a night but I'd hate to find out if I'd spent a few more dollars I could have stayed at Ceasers or something. Thanks for your help. I'll be sure to book through the links and follow-up with my hotel selection and priceDave
thereuare Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! This stay is from Wednesday to Saturday, and rates in Vegas often double or triple on Saturday nite... is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?Let us know and we'll take a closer look at your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
skyhead Posted August 23, 2007 Author Report Posted August 23, 2007 I'm checking in wed and checking out sat if that makes a difference. Also, which will get me the better deal? Priceline or Hotwire?I don't think I'd want to chance splitting the priceline bid. checking in/out is too much of a pain for me
thereuare Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Priceline is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, but hotiwre enables you take an educated guess as to the property you will receive before your purchase.I do see 4* options within your budget, but first we'll need to know the following in order to know which is the best route for you to proceed:Are you willing to accept the Westin? This property is slightly off the strip but still in priceline's South Strip zone... so if this property isn't acceptable then we won't include this zone in a bidding strategy.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
skyhead Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 I've read the Westin reviews and it seems like a fine hotel. I'd like to compare the Westin to a hotel on the strip while I'm looking. If I can get the Westin for $70 versus Paris, Mirage or comparable hotel for $110 I'd probably like to stay on the strip just to experiance Vegas.
dahammer Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 If I can get the Westin for $70 versus Paris, Mirage or comparable hotel for $110 I'd probably like to stay on the strip just to experiance Vegas.when bidding on Priceline, you can't select the hotel, you are just selecting the minimum star level within a specific zone (strip) and maximum price (bid), if the Westin offers room inventory to Priceline at or below your bid ammount, you could end up with the Westin. You can't bid for a specific hotel.
skyhead Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 Thanks, I realize this happems with Priceline. I'm still not sure which to use? Priceline or Hotwire. I think I like the idea of using Hotwire and getting some idea of which hotel I'm getting. I probably should have posted this in the Hotwire forum too?
dahammer Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 I probably should have posted this in the Hotwire forum too?No, you did fine....your topic will be moved to the appropriate forum when you are successful. Have you seen anything on Hotwire for your dates? If so, please list all of the amenities and the price and we will try to ID the property. For what its worth, a quick search using EasyClickTravel should show that the Paris is available for $165 per night, just slightly above your target. This is a nice property with a good location.
skyhead Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 Well I did a HOTWIRE search this morning for central strip and saw a 4 star for $119. Now I look and see 4 star for $129. the amenities are casino, fitness center, pool(s), resturant(s), business center, golf nearby, spa services.
thereuare Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 The above is a match for the Treasure Island hotel. However, rates directly thru the Treasure Island website is just $129/nite... i would book this (directly thru the hotel's website, please use our Treasure Island link to begin your reservation) and continue to use this as a "price to beat" as you get closer to your check-in date.Prices in Vegas change quickly (both up and down), and most other 4* hotels are priced more expensively, so i wouldn't expect this rate thru the hotel website to last too long, which is why i'd suggest locking in this cancellable rate now as it gives you flexibility to take advantage of a better rate down the road, but also protects you against any rate increases later.Does this plan work for you? I'd heard others get this location for a resonable price. What zone or area would I search in? I'm considering TI as well
skyhead Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 I took your advice and booked the TI through the link you provided. At first I was thinking this was Excalabur which we stayed at last time so I was not going to do it. I then realized its TI and in an area of the Strip that I have not been to. I'll probably just keep these reservations and watch for the price to come down a little.thanks again for you help with this
thereuare Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Thanks for using our Treasure Island link to begin your booking.I suspect in the coming weeks/months you'll see this price rise inline with the other 4* properties for these dates.Keep us updated if you find anything else in the interim.
