Well... maybe people have been using this for a long time and I am too dumb to realize it before, but I'm going to share it anyway: if you want to stay at a specific hotel you know is used by HOTWIRE, do your search using the hotel address. If it's available, chances are it will be the first one on your list.

This is interesting. I just Hotwire searched using the address of the Sheraton Old San Juan, PR, which I would like to book 12/19. The first 3.5* hotel, offered at $129 + $29.33 fees and tax, has the same amenities as the Sheraton:

Hotwire.com

3.5-star hotel in San Juan

This hotel features the following amenities:

Casino

Fitness Center

Pool(s)

Restaurant(s)

Business Center

High-speed Internet Access

Tennis Nearby

Tax and fees aren't calculated the same way as on the hotel's reservation system, but I wonder if that's indicative of anything.

Has anyone else been successful with this technique?

I don't agree with it (or at least don't believe there is much use in it)...

When i first heard of this being suggested a few years ago i did a vacation search and found a hotel offered for a given set of dates (so i 'knew' it was at least available and not sold-out). I then searched HOTWIRE's "opaque" version of the site and the hotel i was trying have appear wasn't offered for the same set of dates... a different 4* hotel was offered in the zone.

So searching by address will not 'make' a hotel appear in the offerings... so i don't really see the point as you would still need a way to determine what HOTWIRE rates the hotel you're looking for and the amenities associated with it. As well, searching by address doesn't affect the offerings presented to you and i usually re-sort the results anyway (i typically sort by star rating and/or zone so that i can see if there is any savings by considering another nearby zone)

It's probably useful if you're trying to stay near a specific landmark or street location, but i don't see much use in this technique in trying to determine the name of the hotel offered.
