frugalnotcheap Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 Looking for advice for one night....would prefer a 4 star, but will take a 3 star. Willing for multiple Manhattan options...top price, looking at recent posts, would be $130.
thereuare Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 Just to confirm... Downtown is also acceptable? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
frugalnotcheap Posted August 9, 2007 Author Report Posted August 9, 2007 Yes it's acceptable...but not at the top of the list.
thereuare Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 As an example, would you prefer a $130 hotel room in midtown or a $100 hotel room downtown? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
frugalnotcheap Posted August 9, 2007 Author Report Posted August 9, 2007 $100 downtown would be fine...
thereuare Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 ....would prefer a 4 star, but will take a 3 star... and how about a 4* for $130 vs a 3* for $100? (i thought you'd answer the other way for the midtown vs. downtown location so i better doublecheck on this aspect as well) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
frugalnotcheap Posted August 9, 2007 Author Report Posted August 9, 2007 I'd prefer the 4* to the 3* -- not sure if this is the case in NYC, but my experience with Priceline is that the difference b/t 4 and 3 stars can be great...Just to clarify too...Used to live in the city, so no problem getting around via cabs or public transportation -- that's why the area is not as big of a concern...
thereuare Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 At the 4* level you have two re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS and MTS and Downtown...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTS...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS and Downtown...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW and MTS and UM/CPS and Downtown...Bid $130Start with the above, if rejected post back and we'll outline a 3* strategy.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. frugalnotcheap Posted August 10, 2007 Author Report Posted August 10, 2007 can push bid up a bit...but also might change night to the next night, a sunday...what kind of impact might that have? Also, what's a 2 1/2 star in NYC?
thereuare Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Sunday nite is typically the slowest hotel nite of the week in NYC (and in the hotel industry in general) and i suspect that you'd have success at amounts you have already bid if you want to go that route. However, if you switch the dates i wouldn't bid for the 3* hotels yet until you also consider that HOTWIRE has a 3* property in the MTS zone for $99. It matches what has previously been reported for the Holiday Inn Express Madison Square Garden and generally gets pretty good reviews... so you may want to consider this property thru HOTWIRE, or revise your bid amounts downward, if you try for a 3 star on Priceline. If you go for the hotwire offer please use our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. frugalnotcheap Posted August 11, 2007 Author Report Posted August 11, 2007 Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to wait the time-out period and try again for the Sat night...
frugalnotcheap Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Posted August 12, 2007 OK, swung kid issues so I can bid on Sunday night...what's a good strategy for the same parameters outlined before but knowing it's a Sunday night? Thanks a lot.
thereuare Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 First i'll interject that if you're willing to stay in Jersey City (NJ), where there is a PATH train which will have you into Downtown Manhattan in under 10 minutes, i think you can get a room for about half of what you're willing to spend in NYC.If you'd rather stay in Manhattan, I'd retry the 4* strategy again...Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS and MTS and Downtown...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTS...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS and Downtown...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW and MTS and UM/CPS and Downtown...Bid $130If the above is rejected let us know as we'll be revising the 3* strategy a little (if it comes to that) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
