Priceline Hotel: 4* Boston Downtown or Copley Rejected

First time using Priceline but read pretty much all the FAQs and advice postings. Trying to get a 4* room for August 27 to August 30 in the downtown, Copley, or waterfront region (in that order).

Started with Boston downtown @ $75 but with free bids and other permutations bid in $5-$10 increments eventually adding Copley and the waterfront as well to a bid of $160 that was still turned down!

Is there a convention or some other sort of event happening?? What am I missing? From what I'm reading here I should've been able to hit something but now... If it's over $160 I've already found the Bulfinch hotel I can book at $189 direct...

Any help is appreciated!

A good example of why you shouldn't follow strategies in other threads... as you've arleady overbid (assuming predictions below are correct).

If you search HOTWIRE you'll see a 4* hotel in the (Quincy Market-Financial) zone for ~$153/nite... less thank you've arleady bid (best guess is the Omni Parker House)

Quite true that I was overbidding so I'm somewhat glad it didn't pass. Now that I have some perspective the Hotwire room still seems high, given that the direct website shows rate of around ~150+ as well for multiple-night stays and I could be stuck with a double room.

I'll try Priceline again in 24 hrs with a 130$ ceiling with the savingsbarn.com links and report back.

If you haven't gotten a successful Priceline bid, as of today HOTWIRE has a Quincy-Financial District 4.5* hotel for $129 on your dates. I suspect it's the Intercontinental as I've gotten this same hotel/price on Hotwire before. While not for the same dates, today I got the InterContinental thru Priceline for $116 after weeks of trying, so perhaps they've released some rooms and you'll have similar luck.

It looks like that hotel is LANGHAM Hotel. I tried hotwire for Aug 27 to AUg 30 ad have a deal at $129 for 4.5 Stars for $125 in the Quincy Financial District. It looks like it is the Langham Hotel because it has the following amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business.

I am trying to find a hotel deal for Aug 26 to Aug 29, please let me know what you get from Priceline or Hotwire as well.

The Langham and Inter-Continental both offer these ammenities, so it could be either. I suggested that the Inter-Continental might have released some rooms because of my successful Priceline bid yesterday and the new prices showing up on Hotwire the same day. Also, I've gotten the Inter-Continental three times in the past few months and never the Langham, but that's a rather limited experience to go by. Personally, I'd be delighted with either hotel.

For Aug. 26-29 Hotwire has a 4.5* for $129 (I think this has to be the Inter-Continental or Langham) and a 4* for $122 in the Quincy Market-Financial zone. I'm a frequent Boston traveller and Hotwire user, but new to this board and Priceline. My guess is that pricewise you may be able to do a bit better with a Priceline bid (see my $116 Inter-Continental thread) but Priceline's downtown zone is a bit larger and includes some 4* hotels that Hotwire ranks as 3.5*. Also Priceline doesn't differentiate between a 4 and a 4.5*. Hopefully the experienced Priceline users here here will offer you better advice than I can, but you may need to decide if rock bottom price or identifying the hotel is your priority.

In any event I'm at the Boston Hilton Financial District Aug. 24 -28 (4* HOTWIRE booking), so maybe we can wave in passing!

In case you are interested in Cambridge area, I bidded $83 and got HOTEL at MIT for Aug 26 to 29 through Priceline.
