blkjck1 Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 Started the bidding at $72, and received and refused counter offer to add $22. Was pulled away from the computer, and was not able to rebid for a day. On the second day, I started the bidding at $77 in the YVR area only, and was refused. Added an extra $3 along with the Surrey area, and received the following:Sheraton Guildford Hotel Surrey - Pitt Meadows15269 104th Avenue Surrey, British Columbia V3R 1N5 604-582-9288Check-In Date: Fri, Aug 10, 2007 Check-Out Date:Sat, Aug 11, 2007Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: US$80.00 Subtotal: US$80.00 Taxes & Service Fees: US$20.76 Total Charges: US$100.76 We had booked this same hotel on a cancellable basis at $125 Cdn. The lowest price on the Sheraton's own website for a pre-paid booking after winning this auction was $125Cdn - all in $145. The total cost on Priceline works out to about $107 Canadian, so a savings of about $40Cdn. As always, I booked through the links at savingsbarn.com. Proud to be Canadian!
thereuare Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 Congratulations on your win!Although you still saved money, i think this may be a bit of an overbid. By adding the Surrey zone (a "live" zone) after your rejected YVR bid you didn't give yourself a chance to win at a lower amount in the Surrey zone... plus you did have "true" re-bid zones avaiable to continue bidding for just the YVR Airport zone. Still some nice savings vs. a traditional booked property, but mention the above to hopefully improve your bidding in the future (especially on a multi-nite stay). If you have questions regarding the above feel free to ask. Of course, also always feel free to ask for (or have us confirm) a bidding strategy. Thanks for posting and for using the PRICELINE links at SavingsBarn.com to begin your bidding.Have a great stay. blkjck1 Posted August 6, 2007 Author Report Posted August 6, 2007 Actually, I started the bidding on day 1 in Surrey. I would have been happy to get a room in the YVR zone, but Surrey was the top choice all along. This hotel is just a pit stop for a trip into Washington State the next day, and the hotel is about 15 minutes away from the border crossing. I think this is a reasonable price for Surrey considering I was rejected at $72 and getting the counter. Proud to be Canadian!
