nougat Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Hi allYou are such incredible experts I had to ask for your advice. I may be asking for the impossible but here's the situation. I myself live in San Diego and I'm celebrating my birthday in the Gaslamp on Saturday and Sunday. I needed to find accommodations for 6 other people for July 21 preferably within walking distance of the Gaslamp. I had a 2 bedroom condo rental lined up for this Saturday night in the area but it all fell apart yesterday. So know I'm stuck with having to find accommodation for 6 people at very short notice. The condo would've cost a total of $440. I am now desperately searching for a place to put them that is classy (4*) and that won't cost me more than I was going to spend originally. I researched hotel prices yesterday and it's not looking pretty. Rooms are about $300 and up, without tax. For 6 people, I'd need 2 rooms so I'm looking at $600 plus tax. I'm desperate. I could use any advice and handholding I can get. I have never used Priceline or Hotwire before, so I have very little knowledge, except for what I've read in this forum yesterday and today.Details in summary form:4* hotelSan Diego downtown (close to Gaslamp if possible)Check in: July 21Check out: July 22Any kind of room configuration to accommodate 6 peopleI am not picky in any way about amenitiesI'm willing to spend a total of $450 (incl tax) - would be overjoyed if it was cheaper!Thank you so much for reading my plea! I appreciate anything you're willing to share.
thereuare Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Would the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina work for your needs? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Colfax Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Priceline won't work for you because PL only guarantees double occupancy. You could win rooms with one bed. With HOTWIRE you can enter "6 adults, 2 rooms" and only be offered rooms with two beds. You said you want to be near Gaslamp District. HOTWIRE has a Gaslamp zone but no inventory in Gaslamp on July 21.They have a 4* in the Downtown-Harbor Island zone for $225 per room, each room accomodating three adults. Includng taxes and Hotwire fee the total is $502.14. I know you said you want $450 or less but this is the closest thing to $450 that I see.The amenities match what's been reported for the Westin Horton Plaza in the past, but I don't guarantee that ID.
thereuare Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 On my HOTWIRE search the hotel being offered is a match for the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Colfax Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 If it is the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina that hotel's on Harbor Island, not really Downtown or near the Gaslamp.
nougat Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 Thank you so much for your feedback! Two people just bailed on me so I only have to look for 4 people. I'm glad the condo fell through or I'd be out a whole lotta money. Any suggestions? I see the Westin Horton Plaza has rooms available. The best rate I've seen is $239, so a total of $264.26 (incl taxes and such) (AAA rate through the hotel itself) which is doable. Thanks again for all your advice and feedback.
thereuare Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 If your friends can't stay as far away as Harbor Island then it appears that priceline is not a viable option.HOTWIRE has a smaller "Gaslamp" zone but currently doesn't have any hotels in this area for your date above. So unless your friends can stay further out than the Gaslamp zone it appears the Westin may be your best option. If this is the route you choose please use our Westin link (also found in our support page)Let us know what you decide or if we can be of further help. Colfax Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 What about bidding for two 4* rooms on Priceline? It's possible you could get two rooms on Priceline for less than the $239 you'd pay Westin for one. There's still a chance you'd win two rooms at the Sheraton on Harbor Island though. That's not a disaster if your company doesn't mind a short cabride from the Gaslamp.
