We've never been to NY but have family/friends living in Brooklyn. This 2.5* is listed at $88/night (July 14-17). Please help identifying the place. Will it have a private bathroom? It was mentioned on a previous post that a private bathroom wasn't a given in a 2.5* in NYC, which surprised me!

The listed Hotel Amenities are:

Complimentary Breakfast

<amenity names only please... not descriptions>

High-speed Internet Access

Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.

Are there better options at a budget of $100/night? Thanks for your help/advice.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

This property has not yet been identified, but is your intention to use this as a 'base' to visit Manhattan each day? If so, i wouldn't recommend this area, but unfortunatley there isn't much within your budget in this area.

Are you flying or driving to the area? If flying, which airport. We you be seeing your relative a lot (at all?) during this trip?

Our plan is to catch a couple of ball games at Shea and Yankee Stadium, and visit Ground Zero. Our relatives would come with us to the game at Shea, and some friends would take us out for dinner. That should take care of most of the time, it's a short trip.

We'll be driving to the area.

Thanks!

Would you consider Secaucus/Rutherford NJ? (parking would also be free, which may or may not be the case in Brooklyn)

You would take a bus to the Port Authority and from there you can take a subway to Yankee or Shea Stadium. For the baseball games i think it would be "convenient enough" (in exchange for the cost savings of staying in NYC)... but if you intend on making a few trips to Brooklyn it probably wouldn't be a good choice.

Yes, we would consider Secaucus. Which hotel do you have in mind? Is it the 3* that's going for $84/night this weekend?

The amenities listed are:

Fitness Center

Pool(s)

Restaurant(s)

Business Center

Laundry Facilities

High-speed Internet Access

Golf Nearby

I already booked 1 night in Albany using your link to HOTWIRE.

Thanks!

Thanks for the Albany post... i'm sure the information will benefit other users in the future.

The HOTWIRE hotel above is a match for the Sheraton Meadowlands so that would be our best guess. It is a very nice hotel (one of the nicest in the area) but it's not walkable to mass transit, although the hotel does offer a shuttle (at a fixed schdule) which will drop you off and pick you up from a nearby busstop and/or the Secaucus train station (last return is at 10:45pm... after that i guess you would have to plan to take your own car or a taxi back).

Again, i think this area is nicer than Brooklyn and you're likely looking at a much nicer hotel than the 2.5* you orginally considered, but not sure how convenient it is for your plans if you'll be spending a lot of time in Brooklyn (hotel shuttle to bus/train-->bus/train to Manhattan-->subway to Brooklyn/final destination).

Just to follow up on this thread, I booked the Secaucus-East Rutherford hotel and ended up being the Sheraton Meadowlands as you had predicted; clean and nice but not well located for a visit to NYC. I now agree that staying in NJ is not a very good idea when visiting NYC. It's probably better for travelers on a budget to stay in Brooklyn although I don't know how good that "Comfort Inn Brooklyn Bridge" that Tommy helped identifying is.

Thank you for your help. You were bang on on all of your advice and I for sure will be asking for help again in the future.

Having just stayed in the Meadowlands Sheraton myself, I thought it was very convenient to NYC, at least from Secaucus Junction with trains leaving for NYC every few minutes. The hotel shuttle also seemed to run ontime in the mornings and althrough crowded (with people needing to double up on occasion), the problem was waiting for pickups at night when shuttle service seemed to be "delayed" to the benefit of the taxi's which charged $22 for the 10 minute ride.

Actually, we only needed to take the cab once during our 3 day stay, and compared to the price of staying in the city, it was by far a good bargain.
