Priceline Hotel: 4* San Francisco (USE) Omni San Francisco

Hi, I am a total newbie to Priceline/Hotwire although have been watching the forums for a bit. I have just attempted my first Priceline bid(s) and been rejected. I'm hoping that someone could help me devise a strategy using the rebid/zone thingy to maximise my chances. Looking for a 4 star accommodation in USE or USW (or perhaps Fisherman's Wharf), staying August 17 to August 19 2007. There are 3 in our travel party, so we are looking to book 2 rooms at around $100 maximum per room. I tried USE at $73 rejected, added USW at $76 rejected, added Fisherman's Wharf at $79 rejected.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

We can suggest a strategy to follow... but it's up to you if you want to include the Fishermans Wharf zone or not? Do you want to go up to your $100 limit first and then, if rejected, consider adding Fishermans Wharf... or are you looking for the least expensive 4* hotel in any of the three zones?

Let us know and we'll advise accordingly.

OK, we need to back-up a minute as you need to understand re-bidding (which is what you were trying to do by adding the Fisherman Wharf zone... but that zone does offer 4 star hotels)

Give this thread a read: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained

You actaully have three re-bid zones available when bidding 4* in this area. After reading the above link, feel free to confirm your re-bid zones with the board and we'll then be able to suggest a strategy to follow.

If you're confused after reading the above just post back and we'll break it down for further and go over it one step at a time.

I'm not sure you're following...

There are zones available that don't have 4* or higher hotels available... and you can add these zones to essentially bid again on just the USE and USW zones. You don't need to add the Wharf zone, nor should you if you don't want to stay there, in order to gain additional bids.

Does this make sense or should we try to break it down further?

If I understand this correctly, then if I want 4* in USE or USW, then I can rebid using Cathedral Hill, Civic Centre and South San Francisco because none of these areas have a 4* property. So in theory, I could bid and then rebid four more times. Is this right?

You're part of the way there...

Those two zones are indeed "re-bid zones"... but you actually have one more re-bid zone. See if you can find the third one, if not, list each priceline zone in the San Francisco area and the highest star rating offered in each zone.

You will have many more bidding opportinities than the four (or five) that you think, but let's make sure you have your re-bid zones correct first and then we'll suggest a strategy which gives you multiple bidding opportunities.

Yes, you've got your three free rebid zones correct. That was a lot of work!

Now that you've your free rebid zones identified you might not need them all though because yesterday someone reported winning the Omni in USE for $81 on 8/17-8/20, which includes your own travel dates of 8/17-8/19.

That bidder was rejected at $76 and accepted at $81. You've already been rejected to $79.

I suggest trying $80 for a 4* in USE. Then add any of your three free rebid zones and try $81.

Please go to www.SavingsBarn.com and click on the PRICELINE link there to start your bids.

As per Colfax's suggestion, i'd start with:

Select 4* USE...

Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $81.

If that is rejected let us know and we'll then discuss the two options you have at that point and will proceed to advise accordingly.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I tried again when my 24 hours was up and bid USE 4* $80, then rebid at $82, $83 and $85 - all rejected. Decided not to try USW at this point as the Omni got such a great rap on Trip Advisor and was hoping to snag this one with another go at USE.

Just tried again (after being away for a couple of days). Bid USE 4* $78 and won straight away at the Omni for two rooms!!
