colmx Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 Hi AllI am Bidding on London Hotel for 2 night from Fri 29th June-Sun 1st JulyHave been bidding for over a week now and have bid up to $109 for a 5* 4* or 3* in 5 zones:Bloomsbury - Marble Arch Kensington - Earls Court - Knightsbridge Mayfair - Soho Regents Park - Baker Street WestminsterBut all to no avail.Anyone any idea why there seems to be no availability around this time?Anybody have any luck in getting somewhere around these dates?Any Sugestions? Thanks in advance!
WillTravel Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 Unfortunately, it just might be that your bid is not high enough, that this is a popular time, and the cheapest rooms are gone. If you look at HOTWIRE for your dates, it has a 3.5* hotel which is possibly the Hilton Olympia for $159, which is a 4* hotel on Priceline in the Kensington zone.Rather than get that price for that hotel, which is not super-convenient anyway, I'd try bidding with a couple other zones (but not Docklands or Hammersmith). If you really want the areas you mention, just be prepared to raise your bid (although it will likely take somewhat less than the Hotwire price).
thereuare Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? This is only a 2 nite stay so completely understandable if you don't want to change hotels each nite, but i do think it may help as rates for the second nite of your stay look higher than for the first nite.Let us know your thoughts on splitting, your maximum bid, and the zone(s) you're willing to accept we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
colmx Posted June 21, 2007 Author Report Posted June 21, 2007 Hi thereuareFollowing your suggestion i split my bid and bid on a 3 star in Mayfair-Soho @$74 for the Fri night (june 29th)Ended up getting: London-Regents Park Holiday Inn 3*It gets great reviews on Tripadvisor so I'm very happy with that!Have tried bidding for the sat night at up to $93 - but have been unsuccessful! Will try again tomorrow...Unless you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!
WillTravel Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 I thought Regents Park Holiday Inn is in the Bloomsbury zone. It's off the map for the Mayfair-Soho zone. Could you recheck that?Did you try the "Extend a night" feature? I doubt it will work (usually doesn't for international bookings), but it's worth a try.
colmx Posted June 21, 2007 Author Report Posted June 21, 2007 oops..Sorry WillTravel you are correct it is in the Bloomsbury - Marble Arch zone(I Bid for both zones)Tried the extend a night but got refused.... will try it again tomorrow!Noticed that the sat night in this hotel is $155.55 (inc taxes and breakfast) on http://www.baholidays.com, which is 15% discount on the Holiday Inn rwebsite... I also see a 3* on priceline in Bloomsbury - Marble Arch zone is $221I guess I'll have to bid in the $120 mark region to get the sat night through priceline?Or what do others think?
WillTravel Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 If that's the price on the BAHolidays site and it's inclusive of tax and breakfast, I think that a bid of more than about $105 would mean you weren't saving much if anything. Particularly if it's for the same hotel, I doubt I'd even bid again.
