jen9985 Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 I have a backup reservation at Excalibur for June 26-30 for a total of $334 with tax. Wanted to see if I could possibly upgrade to a four star. I checked the hotels on the strip and they are averaging around 140-150 a night with the hotel promotions. Wanted to see if it was possible to get it for around a hundred or so? Any help would be appreciated!!! Thank you :)
pirate Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Hi Jen,This is a four night stay? If so the Friday night may be a sticking point, but there are options.First 4* on the strip. Some experienced Priceliners avoid bidding 4* on the strip because the don't want the Westin, which is a property that comes up quite frequently. If you are happy with the Westin, and if retail rates are around $150 for your dates, I think you have a fair chance of landing something for around $100. There are two free rebids at 4* in Vegas, Nellis and Airport. (If you aren't totally comfortable about rebids read the information posted on this site until you are sure you understand!) Calling the rebid zones A and B I would proceed as follows:Bid 4* Strip @ $70If failed, add A and bid $75If failed, totally close the browser before logging on again and starting a fresh bid for 4* Strip and B @ $80.If failed, add A and bid $85.If failed, wait 24 hours and repeat the same sequence starting $5 higher and going up by the same increments.Keep repeating the sequence every 24 hours until you hit or reach your price limit (don't forget that there is the Priceline fee and taxes to go on top of what you actually bid!)Next option, are you OK with the Convention Centre? Some are, some aren't. Bidding 4* there will likely yield the Renaissance at a good price, but only you can decide wether that is preferable to the Excalibur for your needs. If you decide to try this then bid 4* Convention Centre using the exact same bid levels and sequences as above. Note that you can bid this staight after failing on the Strip, just close the browser and then start over.Final option, it is JUST possible that you could get The Venetian for $119ish for the first three nights of your stay and then move somwhere cheaper for Friday night. If you want to go that route post again for further help.Good Luck and let us know how you get on, :) Pirate
jen9985 Posted June 17, 2007 Author Report Posted June 17, 2007 Thanks for the advice. First I tried the three nights at *5, first at 120, 125, 130, 135 and all got rejected. I didn't want to go any higher than that. I then tried *4 at 80, 85, and 90. All got rejected. I read about the Westin and it told me they were sold out for the four nights I will be there. And I would rather stay at the Excalibur then at the convention center. So I guess I'll wait till tomorrow and try again. I used the savingsbarn.com link for priceline. Maybe I'll sign my boyfriend up for an account and have him try, since he is the one going with me and then I can try again. I'll let you know if anything works or doesn't work. Thanks again!

jen9985 Posted June 17, 2007 Author Report Posted June 17, 2007 I would prefer not to, but I do realize Friday night is much more expensive than the other nights. If it is going to make it cheaper I will bid on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at another hotel and just keep Friday at Excalibur.
jen9985 Posted June 17, 2007 Author Report Posted June 17, 2007 I spent the day searching for deals and booked one at the Luxor. It's the million dollar promotion package and includes a free upgrade to a tower room, two admissions to the spa and some sort of drinks. The total for four night with tax was $457. I figured this was pretty good and would be close to what I would have to pay on Priceline. I realize the Luxor is far down the strip, but boyfriend and I don't mind walking and for the price think it's a pretty good deal. Thanks for all the help though!
