A month ago I stayed here via Priceline for one night and my room REEKED of curry. One month later I'm back, assigned to the same room, and it STILL smells like a Punjabi spice factory. I chatted up the maid and she let me enter a few other vacant rooms to sniff. None of them had the curry smell.

I thought I'd already experienced every type of "Priceline room" in existence----next to the ice machine, next to the elvator shaft; overlooking the freeway, the housing project, the hotel furnace. This is a new one for me though; the room that knocks you over with curry.

$33 rejected. $34 accepted. $64.99 at ExtStay.com

Also rejected:

$55 2* University

$50 2* Folsom

$48 2.5* Rancho Cordova

I'm usually assertive (politely) about asking for what I want, but I didn't request to be moved out of the curry room either time.

I'd already made three requests: 1) nonsmoking room 2) first floor and 3) facing away from the freeway. The hotel granted all three of those plus let me check in two hours early. I didn't want to push it with requests. And the solution to the curry issue was probably going to be moving to the second floor or facing the freeway.

Same reasoning the second time. I didn't remember that it was the same room until I opened the door. Really surprised the smell was still there a month later.

What made it okay is that I like curry. It wasn't a bad smell so much as an unexpected one. If the room had smelled of vomit or cat urine I'm sure I would have asked to move. :)
