I will be trying priceline about a week before my tip & need help with a back up hotel. I am stuck with the kids on this trip to Vegas. Which hotel do you recommend for 2 girls 10 & 7? I anticipate alot of pool time & it would be nice if they had other things to do. Right now I am considering the Flamingo, MGM, Luxor, Hard rock & Orleans although I really don't care which one. Looking for a few suggestions for my trip 04/11-04/16. Thanks.

Couple of questions....

Why wait a week for Priceline, are your plans likely but not yet firm?

What are the prices of the above hotels? Rates can vary greatly and what is the most expensive hotel in that bunch for your dates may not necessarily be the most expensive hotel in that group for another day.

Have your girls ever been to Vegas before (at which point there will likely be a fair amount of sightseeing and location becomes important as well).

My dates are firm. 04/11/04-04/16/04. I am getting a rental since we do plan to visit relatives in the area. The girls have never been there & I haven't been there since the Mirage opened. No idea what we will do, or how far we will travel while there. The prices of the hotels range from $120 a night (MGM) to $60.00 a night (Orleans). The only requirement is the Hotel has to have a Casino & a nice pool. The MGM is 89 a night for the first two nights of my trip. The other hotels are pretty flat for each night with a slight increase as we approach Weds & Thursday. The only reason I was going to wait until a week before to try priceline is I thought that is when most of the people claim the prices are the best for Vegas.

I think the 'last minute' of Vegas only applies if you are looking for the Venetian... and if that's the case you probably need to wait until the beginning of April to have a chance at the absolute lowest rates.

Of your current choice i would go with the Flamingo (but respect that others may disagree). The downside of the Flamingo is that the rooms are a bit dated and don't compare to the new mega-resorts on the strip. However, they're rates are usually cheaper than the mega-resorts (as they are in this instance) and their pool area is great. Very tropical setting, they have 4 pools that are all connected via waterslides! They also have live Flamingos on the grounds and penguins (whether you ultimately stay at this property or not, find out what time the feeding of the penguins occurs and take your kids to watch it). Additionally, the location of this proerty can't be beat!

As a side note, Hotwire appears to have a 4.5* hotel for your dates for $88/nite and the amenities match both that of Caesars and the Mirage (so it could be either... or some other property we don't yet know about). I'm not a big fan of Caesar's but i know others love it and it's one of their favorite hotels, on the otherhand, the Mirage is great and the pool area for your kids would be amazing.

Let us know when you decide to move forward and we'll try to update with more info.

As an update I really couldn't decide where to stay so I made two reservations. I got the Flaming for $60.00 a night on Weds & Thursday & took the MGM for $99 a night (tower room) for Sunday-Weds with assorted coupons & $30.00 dining credit. If anyone else wants to make a suggestion I would be glad to hear from you. I could always cancel the above. (48 hr notice).

I couldn't pass up the Venetian for $99.00 a night. Checked Hotwire today & saw that the Venetian dropped from $150s a night to $120s a night for the first three nights of my stay. I had a feeling it would be available since the Venitian website was advertising $119.00 a night for these three days ( however quoted prices were $229.00 a night when you tried to book on the website). Followed the instructions posted on this website and added zones up until my $99.00 a night for two rooms was accepted. ( $98.00 was rejected). Right now I will keep my Flaming reservation & cancel my MGM ressie. Thanks for the help.

That's great news... glad it worked out for you!

Can you clarify which dates you were successful for?

If you continue to use Priceline or Hotwire for the balance of this stay please start a new topic and in the message add a link to this thread (for continuity).

Enjoy your time in Vegas... hopefully you won't have to wait it out at the tables to get lucky as you did with this reservation!

This info is already under another topic but I wanted to post again for the benefit of anyone scanning the boards for price info. As discussed by many others I watched Hotwire for these dates & waited for the price to fall from the $150s to $120s. I then went to priceline & started at $90.00. I kept rebidding with different zones. My $98.00 bid was rejected. $99.00 was accepted. It would not surprise me if this price goes lower the closer you get to 04/11/04. However, since my plans are set, this was a no brainer. Good luck & happy bidding to all.
