Could you suggest a bidding strategy for the midtown area, 4* probably don't want to go more than $180. Do you think that is possible?

Well for your dates, Grand Hyatt is very pricey for the Monday. Intercontinental Barclay looks okay, so does the Hilton New York and Times Sq so your dates aren't looking bad for availability in my quick check. As for $180, best way is to bid and find out. You could try:

4* MTW $160 if Rejected try:

4* MTW,Upper West Side $170 if Rejected close and re-access priceline

4* MTW,Upper East Side $175

4* MTW, Upper East Side, Upper West Side $180

Works for any region, MTW is just an example that will get you up to your current max mid. Based on rates its possible you could get it for $180, if not check the publicly available rates and decide if its worth bidding, or perhaps changing the * level.
