Hotwire Hotel: stay in Manhatten or elsewhere?

There is a HW hotel at Newark Airport for 3.5 starts at $49/nt

Is it reasonable to stay there and rent a car and do Manhatten each day?

Surely even if paying parking and rental car and a little driving,

that has to pan out reasonable compared to $200/nt on the island?

2 adults and a 7yr old just there for food/fun/and sightseeing.

Manhattan is the one place you really do not want to drive... either in or in to. I grew up in Manhattan and I never take my car in. First, there's the traffic, both getting into Manhattan and once you are in there. Parking rates are astronomical.

You'd be better off getting a hotel in or near Jersey City and taking public transportation in. There are lots of threads in the NYC forum about this.
