theurbancanadian Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Small overnight trip to Toronto March 4-5. I'm new to this site and all the info here is overwelming (can't wait to go through it out) so here is my question. I'm looking for a 3* or 4* hotel downtown, what bid amounts am I looking to place on Priceline for a decent hotel? Any other info, advice, comments would help as well. Thanks in advance
thereuare Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Did you want to try for a 4* up to your maximum bid first and then try for a 3* property if not successful... or are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better property? What is your maximum bid? With the above info we'll be able to suggest a strategy for you to follow. theurbancanadian Posted February 14, 2007 Author Report Posted February 14, 2007 Thanks for the welcome. From what I've been seeing on this site, Toronto's 3* hotels are better than their 4* hotels so I'm looking for one of the better 3* ones. As for amount, from what I've seen, I was looking around $50. Thanks for the help
thereuare Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 You have two re-bid zones available at the 3* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* Downtown...Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $45, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* Downtown and re-bid zone2...Bid $48, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $50.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. theurbancanadian Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 thank you for your advice. Is there a way to place a bid to favor in a hotel you want. For example using your prices, instead of bidding $40 and getting a lower quality 3* as opposed to bidding $45 first in hopes of getting a better 3*. In other words, does the bidding amount indicated the type of 3* hotel you will get or does it just go by availability? Thanks again

MJRBIM Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 You should also BEWARE the 3* Bond Street that has been coming up on PL in the Toronto Downtown zone. It is not comparable to the other 3*'s in the zone - and with PL you can't avoid it.Your best choices are bidding 4* in the Toronto Downtown zone, or using this site to help identify a better 3* hotel using HOTWIRE.
dc3 Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 The 4* hotels are better than the 3* hotels and the price difference is very small. Bond Place is the 3* problem - it is a budget hotel that is not highly rated by anyone. If you get it you'll survive. You can try bidding very low for 3* if that's your objective - start down at $40 and rebid in small increments. Or go for 4* and start at $65. Hotwire usually has the 3.5* Delta Chelsea (see the hotwire list on this baord) but it will usually be more expensive than the best bid on Priceline. In general, the best deals on Priceline are at the 4* level.
