irobot Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 Ok, maybe I'm not seeing the big picture here, but I have never tried priceline for a car rental because I've had the impression that it just didn't save you much (if anything) over renting directly. For example, I've got a reservation through Thrifty for Jan 10 - 18 in LAS for a mid-size car. Total cost was $181. That's without coupons, discounts or anything. Based on the best rates I've seen posted here, how would a PL reservation be worthwhile?
A Bradley Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 irobot,I agree with you. I'm on this board today because this is the first time I actually booked a car with priceline. Usually I find a better deal with Hertz, Budget or Enterprise. This time priceline beat my lowest cancellable reservation by $10 for a three day reservation, and I went up from compact to midsize.
eagle1584 Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I've used Priceline a few times in Las Vegas and almost always been around half the best rate with a coupon that I've found. I generally have always gotten mid-size cars around $13 without working it very hard. I'm sure that with a bit of strategy it can be done cheaper as this post suggests. But for some reason I've always done well at $13 a day. I also seem to do better booking about 2 weeks out from my trip. I do however usually book a cancellable vehicle early trying to find a discount coupon or special online as a back up.I've been really happy with priceline results on cars.
