mill4023 Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 I currently have a backup reservation at the Belvedere. It looks like it's a 3*. For the three nights, it averages $230/night plus tax.The areas we'd like to stay (in order of preference) are: midtown west, midtown east, upper midtown/central park south. My first choice would be to try for a 4* and I'd be willing to go up to the $230/night I already have booked. If I'm not able to get a 4* for that price, my next choice would be to see if I can get a 3* for around $175. If that doesn't work either, I'd keep the Belvedere reservation because from what I've read, it gets very good reviews.I understand rebids and I see that at the 4* level, I can use UES and UWS. But I could use some help with a strategy because I'm still not entirely clear on what you can change each time you bid.On second thought, if I can't get a 4*, I'm not 100% sure if I should risk trying for a better deal on an unknown 3*. I'm pretty comfortable with the reviews on the Belvedere, but I would like to save some money. In general, how are the 3*'s in these areas? Are there much of a risk at this level of getting a lemon? Or are they all pretty nice?
thereuare Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 Rates are a little higher than i would have previously thoguht for these dates, but let's try for a 4* first and then we'll cross the 3* bridge when we get there. To try for a 4* i would begin as follows:Select 4* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTW...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165.I would currently only bid as high as $165 given the amount of time before your stay.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. mill4023 Posted November 14, 2006 Author Report Posted November 14, 2006 Thanks so much. I'll give it a try sometime tonight and report back.
mill4023 Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 I tried and had no luck. How long would you recommend I wait before trying again?Should I increase the prices a bit next time or not? Thanks again for your help
thereuare Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 I would try again in 2 weeks (although most can't wait that long and will try again in a week anyway :) )Personally i wouldn't raise my bid at this point unitl after the first of the year... you already have a back-up and your stay is still quite a few months away. mill4023 Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 Just tried again and no luck.
thereuare Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 Still plenty fo time so i'd continue to exercise patience. One additional alternative to your existing back-up reservation is the Beekman Tower where you can get a 1BR suite (with kitchen) for $195/nite, which is also cancellable up until 2 days before your check-in date. mill4023 Posted November 27, 2006 Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 I've never used EasyClickTravel. In the Hotwire threads, I see you helping people determine which hotel a listing is, but there always seems to be a disclaimer that you can't know for sure which hotel it is. Is this not the case with EasyClickTravel? And is it a fully cancellable reservation without any penalties or fees? Thanks
thereuare Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 We can't see the names of the hotel either :), but every time a user has bought the hotel linked above it has been the Beekman, so i would be very, very, very surprised if it were soemthing else.EasyClickTravel reservations are cancellable without penalty or fees (usually outside of 72 of check-in date, but actual timeframe will be shown at the bottom of the page, after the hotel description, once you have selected your dates and are shown a price). mill4023 Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 Gave it another shot today and still no luck. I followed the strategy except I made the very last bid $175 instead of $165 just for the heck of it.I've been thinking about whether or not to try for a 3*, but I really want to make sure we have a nice place and even though our backup (The Belvedere) is a 3*, it gets really good reviews on TripAdvisor, so I'm not sure I want to risk an unknown 3*. But it's still a few months away, so I'll probably stick with the strategy you posted for a few more tries.
dahammer Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 the Beekman Tower is now $214 for your dates of travel through EasyClickTravel Travel and is a 1 BR suite.
