Definition of 'Duplicate Bid' on Priceline

I've used the re-bidding process a number of times on PL with good success. However, I've suddenly realized that I'm not quite clear on what constitutes a duplicate bid. If there is an existing discussion on this topic, feel free to point me to it. I've read the post that explains the re-bid process, but it doesn't answer this question.

Here are a couple of scenarios I'm thinking about. These scenarios assume all bids are made at the same star level.

Scenario 1:

Bid Zone A, $30, rejected

Bid Zone A+B, $32, rejected

Close browser and re-enter site

Bid Zone B, $34

Is this allowed, or would it be considered a duplicate bid?

Scenario 2:

Bid Zone A, $30, rejected

Bid Zone A+B, $32, rejected

Close browser and re-enter site

Bid Zone C, $34, rejected

Bid Zone C+B, $36

Is this allowed, or would it be considered a duplicate bid?

Why or why not?

Hope this makes sense. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Scenario1 = Duplicate Bid

Scenario2 = Allowed

Each new bid has to be a new/different combination.

Scenario1:

When you bid A+B, close browser, and then try zone B... zone B is simply a smaller sub-set of the A+B zone which you have already bid.

Scenario2:

When you bid A+B, close borwser and then try zone C... zone C is an entirely new zone that has never been bid, so it is allowed. You can then add zone A (or zoneB) since you have never bid that combination before. The key difference from Scenario1 above is that this latter example is a 'bigger' combination then in the scenario above... you're adding zones to your previously rejected bid, not subtracting zones.

Hope that makes it a bit clearer, but feel free to ask additional questions if any remain.

OK, I think I'm getting it now. I screwed up earlier when trying to place a bid, and I think I now understand why.

I was bidding on zone A, with free re-bid zones B and C. I went in this order:

A

A+B

A+B+C

Close browser and re-enter

A+C

Priceline didn't allow the A+C bid. I guess what I should have done was:

A

A+B

Close and re-enter

A+C

A+B+C

I think that's what I did wrong.

Starting to feel like I'm in junior high math class again...
