Harold Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 I am new at this, but Iam planning my next year's vacation to the US and Canada and trying to booking a nice hotel in Vancouver, BC. At Hotwire they are stating a 5* hotel in the downtown area for only $ 157 (40% off). This amount is way lower than any rate I have found so far in this region. Can anyway enlighten me if this is actually a good deal and preferably the hotel name as well. It is for the period of June 16th for 3 nights.Thanks.
WillTravel Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 $157 for a 5* hotel in Vancouver in June sounds good to me. What are the amenities you see when you do the search, what is the full name of this downtown zone (as there are several Hotwire zones which include the word "Downtown"), and are you searching for two adults? There are very few 5* hotels in Vancouver, so I think there's a good chance of narrowing it down.Whether it's a good deal would depend if you thought this hotel was worth it as compared to what is likely to be a somewhat cheaper rate if you were willing to bid for a 4* Vancouver hotel on Priceline.
Harold Posted October 12, 2006 Author Report Posted October 12, 2006 It sure does sound good. Amenities are : Fitness center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, High Speed Internet Access, Golf nearby and Spa services. It's in Downtown Vancouver West and yes I am searching for two adults.
WillTravel Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 As you can see from this list, it's probably the Sutton Place:Hotwire Hotel ListSo far as I know from my knowledge of the area, the Sutton Place is the only possible 5* hotel in the Downtown Vancouver West zone, but of course you should research this to see what you think too. (After all, I was surprised today on another thread.)
Harold Posted October 12, 2006 Author Report Posted October 12, 2006 Yeah I guess it must be this hotel. I also checked Expedia and they offer the hotel for the 100% value of Hotwire's price. I can't get a price from their own website. So that would still leave me as to why its 40% off only at Hotwire also keeping in mind that it's 8 months from now.U got any clue about that?
thereuare Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 So that would still leave me as to why its 40% off only at Hotwire HOTWIRE is an 'opaque' service. In other words, you dont' know with 100% certainty that the hotel above is the Sutton Place as neither your, or we, can see the name of the hotel... that is an educated guess. By keeping the name of the hotel hidden, hotels are able to offer deep discounts to the opaque suppliers while still keeping their higher margin rates for customers who wish to choose that specific property. This is further explained in the I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire thread. Please be sure to use this HOTWIRE link to begin any purchases you make.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Harold Posted October 15, 2006 Author Report Posted October 15, 2006 I wanted a 4* downtown Vancouver for Jun 16 - 20, 2006.I started bidding at $105 (Vancouver downtown) and got rejected, I then kept adding zones:$110 - Added Langley..rejected$115 - 1 day later...rejected$119 - Added Surrey..rejected$125 - Added Langey..rejected$129 - Added Delta..rejected$135 - 1 day later..rejected$139 - Added Langley...rejected$145 - Added Surrey...acceptedGreat deal, total price $518.47/3 = $172.82/night. On Expedia currently $263.55/night
