bajarider Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Hi - I'm new to the priceline/hotwire experience. Looking for a 5* for Las Vegas strip for 12/24-26 and hotwire appears to be giving me the Venetian for $130 a night which is the best deal I've found so far, but again, I am not very adept at this. The hotwire star rating worries me a little because they link to tripadvisor which rates all kinds of things 5 star (Mirage, Caesers). So my questions:1. Is hotwire 5* Las Vegas North Strip Customer Favorite most likely the Venetian? (I did read the hotel list and posts and it looks like it)2. Is $130 a night for Venetian 12/24-26 a good deal?3. Would rather stay at the Wynn or Bellagio but cannot seem to find for less than $260 for Wynn or $230 for Bellagio a night for these dates - any advice?4. How much does price change over time/is it better to wait or book early?THANKS!!g
dahammer Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Welcome!so far, the only reported 5* has been the Venetian, so it is likely that this is the hotel shown on Hotwire. Is $130 a good deal? You might want to check the Travel Links to Support BetterBidding above and there is a direct link to the Venetian as well as the Bellagio and Wynn. Check your dates and please post the results for your dates of travel. If you want to stay at the Wynn or Belagio, then you may want to book directly with these hotels. Since your are going to Vegas, I assume your intention is to play a game of chance or two :) so why not roll the dice right now and bid for a 5* with Priceline? You may be able to get a better deal than $130. Since you have plenty of time before your trip, and you can bid after 24 hours if you are unsuccessful, and since there are plenty of rebid zones at the 5* level, you may want to consider going this route. As far as when to bid, check out the FAQ most common questions and let us know if your plans are firm and if you want a bidding strategy for Priceline.
bajarider Posted October 14, 2006 Author Report Posted October 14, 2006 Hey thanks. I tried to check rates at the Travel Links to Support BetterBidding above but it does not work for me (opens to a 404 error in both IE 7 and NS 7.1). I checked rates at the hotel's sites and found the following for 12/24/06-12/26/06:Bellagio - $229.00Wynn - $259.00Venetian - $338.00I then bid $100/night for a 5* Las Vegas strip resort on Priceline for these dates and they came back with an offer of $133.00 ($303.22 for both nights with taxes and fees). I assume this is also the Venetian.I then checked again at hotwire and they are still giving me the 5* for $130.00 ($291.14 total with taxes and fees). My plans are firm for those dates, tho Im not sure what a bidding strategy is? I am leaning toward booking the hotwire soon, and will be sure to share my hotel info per the instructions.thanks very much!gk
bajarider Posted October 14, 2006 Author Report Posted October 14, 2006 I booked the Venetian Hotel Las Vegas on HOTWIRE for $131 a night for 12/24-12/26 2006, with taxes and fees total is $293.14. Note that it went up a buck from $130 about 5 hours earlier in the day. It was the only 5* listed in the Las Vegas North Strip Area on Hotwire for those dates. Lowest rate on Venetian site was $169. dahammer Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 well done! When you bid on Priceline, you recieved a counteroffer @ $133, this can often be undercut by closing your browser and re-accessing PL as you had done previously and starting abother bid by adding a "rebid zone" which is a zone that does not have any 5* properties and increasing your bid. For example, you could start your bid for the Strip and add Downtown as a rebid zone since there are no 5* in Downtown. Check out the following post and you will see a bidding strategy for travel dates which are different from yours, and the rates are much higher. Also, please use the HOTWIRE link above as it helps to keep this board a valuable, free resource.
