Priceline Hotel: Having trouble in NY or JC with 11/13 or 11/14... what's up?

I'm trying to get 1 or 2 nights in Jersey City or NYC for 13th Nov 2 nights, or Nov 14th 1 night.

I've gone up to $340 with no success for 4 stars in all the 16 bid zones for my preferred areas in NYC.

I'm very happy to stay in Jersey City, but here I've gone up as far as $130 for a 3 star with no luck.

Is there something happening these dates which would explain why it's so problematic to get a PL win?

Any info or tips appreciated,

using HOTWIRE for one night 11/13, you could get what appears to be the 4* JC Hyatt for $161. If you go for two nights starting 11/13, the rate jumps to $359 each night... :) Using these same dates (two nights starting 11/13), a 2* with fitness center, laundry, HS Internet, and Kitchenette icons appears for $122. In the past, this has been reported as the Candlewood Suites in Jersey City. Very convenient to the PATH train and the room is like a tiny apartment, with only one queen bed, and two of my favorite words.....free parking :) . This 2* is also available for one night @ $122 with no 4* available for the one night.

in Secaucus-Meadowlands, Hotwire is showing a 2.5* for $88 for both nights: Suite, Laundry, Fitness, Free Breakfast, Kitchenette, This has been reported as the Amerisuites in Secaucus and is steps away from the bus and a 25 minute bus ride into Manhattan.

as to "what's up?"......the law of Supply and Demand is causing hotel rates to remain high.

All that i can add to the above is that if you split between the Candlewood and the Hyatt it would be very easy to move between the two hotels (assuming your luggage is managable) and i would sooner do that before spending $300+ for a hotel room in Manhattan.

If you use hotwire for either/both purchases please use this HOTWIRE link to begin each purchase.

Thanks for the replies - I really appreciate it.

I was surprised at the rates but I didn't break down the dates (good tip!), and it's interesting to see that what appears to be the Hyatt is less than half price on the Monday night vs. the Tuesday night....

Ironically, it's the Tuesday night (14th Nov) I need the most... I'm familiar with Candlewood as I used to do some work for them... they're perfectly acceptable but was really excited at the possibility of the Hyatt.

I do have a back-up reservation at the Sheraton Hudson, but it's $175/nt AND using my SPG points in conjunctin with that as well, so it's hardly a 'steal'!

I might try again for the Hyatt (Doubletree) in a few days or so... hopefully some inventory is dumped for that night!

Keep monitoring Hotwire and if you see prices dip for the 4*, this could tip Hyatt's hand in this game of high stakes poker :) However, if you see this offer disappear, then they may be close to full occupancy, and you may end up at the Sheraton. I believe the NY Water Taxi has a pick up point right next to the Sheraton for access to Manhattan, is this correct?

Yes - there is a water taxi, but apparently it's operation is very limited. Reviewers of this hotel have said that it runs only once or twice an hour, and only during the core part of the day with no evening service etc.

I'll keep you posted on my luck (or otherwise) with the Hyatt!

This "water taxi" is run by NY Waterway and does have fairly limited (midweek rush hour only last i checked) service although the hotel will shuttle you down the road (about a mile) to the 'main' NY Waterway terminal which has more frequent service.

However, the ferry is expensive (like $11-$12/RT) and i'd sooner take the bus which stops in front of this hotel into the city (as long as it wasn't rush hour as the traffic could be brutal)

Further to my posts over on the PL forum, having trouble for 13 and 14 Nov in NYC. Have a hotel in NJ booked as back-up, but still shooting for NYC itself.

There is a hotel listed on Hotwire: NYC Midtown Central, 3 Star, Restaurant, High Speed Internet, Fitness Centre.

There are no posted hotels on the pinned list that exactly match - I'm wondering if it's maybe the Club Quarters that's been downgraded from 3.5 to 3*?

Otherwise, maybe the Novotel - but the amenities don't match this one either...

Any ideas?

The hotel for same dates, 3* NYC Times Square/Theatre District is Boutique, and I'm guessing the Panorama - which I'm a bit leary of...

Thanks for any advice!

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.

The 3* in the MTC zone is a match for the Washington Jefferson so that would be our best guess. If do go for this (or the Jersey City option discussed above, if still available) please remember to use our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase(s).

If you really want the city you can also consider the Hotel Wales for $316/nite and the Paramount for $325/nite.
