Claudia Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 As I now have the nights from Nov 24 to Nov 27 I still need that one night Nov 23.Thereuare, what is the best way to get a room either in a hotel nearby or in the same hotel for a higher rate?I wouldn't mind to go up to around $120 if there would be any chance to get the Hyatt again.I tried the HOTWIRE link you sent yesterday but for that night the Hyatt didn't come up.Thanks again for your help! :)
thereuare Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 The hotels in Jersey City won't be your best deal for this remaining date.On HOTWIRE, there is a 3* hotel in the MidtownCentral zone for $122 (your price may differ by a few dollars) which is believed to be the Hudson Hotel. This is a good deal for this nite and i'd give yourself one nite in the city itself before moving to Jersey City. You can also try to beat it first on Priceline if you're open to staying at 'any' hotel in the given zones you bid. If you want to try that you have one re-bid zone available and can bid as follows (this is assuming you'll take any hotel in MTE, MTW, MTS, UM/CPS... if one of these zones is not acceptable let us know):Select 3* MTW...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTE...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTS...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120.Let us know how it goes or if you have any questions.Good luck. Claudia Posted September 22, 2006 Author Report Posted September 22, 2006 I just don't understand why that single night in Jersey City would be so difficult to get? Is there any reason for it? I know that it is Thanksgiving but why would it be more difficult to get a room in Jersey City than in Manhattan?
thereuare Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 It doesn't matter why rates are high, just that they are. But...1) As you mention, it is Thanksgiving (Doubletree is sold-out, Hyatt is almost $300, and the Candlewood is nearly $200, thus making the above your best deal) 2) The HOTWIRE offer is an 'outlyer'; all of the other 3* hotels ( as well as lower rated properties) are $200+, which is why this 3* for $122 stands out as such a good dealYou could wait to see if prices in Jersey City come down, but i'm not so sure i'd do that since while you wait the HOTWIRE offer above could disappear... leaving you with no options other than $200+) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Claudia Posted September 25, 2006 Author Report Posted September 25, 2006 I now made a normal back up reservation at the Marriott Financial Center which I can cancel anytime.I tried the Hyatt up to 200$ for that night but with no luck. I will try again in some weeks and if nothign has changed we stay at the Marriott. I didn't want to take the Hudson as the rooms seem to be ridiculously small.
dahammer Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 for your date of travel, it appears that a 2* is available on HOTWIRE with the following amenities: Fitness Center, Laundry, High Speed Internet, Kitchenette. This should be the Candlewood Suites in Jersey City. Rooms typicaly have one queen bed and the location is very good. The PATH station is a short walk or the Hotel has a free shuttle bus to take you to the station.
thereuare Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 What is the rate of your back-up at the Marriott? If you could land the Candlewood Suites thru HOTWIRE at a better rate it would be a very convenient alternative to the Hyatt. Claudia Posted September 25, 2006 Author Report Posted September 25, 2006 Can I be sure that the hotel on hotwire is the Candlewood Suites? If so I would like to book it.The Marriott rate is 220$, quite a difference to the 111$ for the hotwire hotel. How far is the Candlewood Suites from the Hyatt, is it a 10 min walk or so?
thereuare Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Can I be sure that the hotel on hotwire is the Candlewood Suites?Since none of us can see the name of this property before it's purchased, "NO", you can't be sure. However, the amenities and star rating exactly match what has previously been reported for this property (as per the Hotwire Hotel List). There could always be a new, or otherwise unreported, property with the same exact star rating and amenities as has previously been reported for the Candlewood. When dealing with the opaque providers you can never be sure of the hotel you will receive, the best you can do is line up all your ducks and make an educated guess (sometimes VERY educated guess).I will say that i'd be surprised if this wasn't the Candlewood Suites (and every now and then i am surprised)... but nobody can ensure that this is indeed the Candlewood Suites.Distance from the Candlewood Suites to the Hyatt is walkable... close to 5 minutes than 10.If you do choose the above please use this HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Let us know how it goes or if you have any further questions.PS- if you don't go for this, although the rooms at the Hudson may be small, the location is good and not worth (imo) an extra $100 to stay downtown at the Marriott... especially for a one nite stay. Claudia Posted September 25, 2006 Author Report Posted September 25, 2006 Thereuare, I understand what you are saying of course.I am only a bit confused because the cheapest rate for that day on the Candlewood suites website says 177$ whereas on hotwire it says the rate for the hotel is 125$, saving of 11% which is 14$, which doesn't really make sense to me, or is the "normal rate" hotwire is mentioning just an average rate in general and not for that night?
thereuare Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 The HOTWIRE retail prices can not be relied upon to help in identifying a hotel, as per this Hotwire Retail Prices thread. Claudia Posted September 25, 2006 Author Report Posted September 25, 2006 Ok, I just booked through your HOTWIRE link and it is the Candlewood Suites, 111$ for 1 night. Thanks again, now I am done for this trip but I will definiteley come back, great website!!!!
thereuare Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Congratulations!I'm sure your heart was racing a bit as you clicked the "BUY" button, but glad to see it all worked out as expected and that you are pleased with the results. Much of the credit goes to dahammer for spotting this on HOTWIRE, as it was not there just the other day when i had looked previously. You can use our Priceline Maps (click the NYC then drag the map to the south and west to the see the Jersey City area) in order to see the distance between these two hotels.Enjoy your stay.
