dahammer Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Started out using Hotwire to get a feel for rates. In the EWR zone, a 3* was available for $180, what appeared to be the Hyatt was $148, so I knew this was going to be a tough day. I was rejected up to $80 in Elizabeth at the 3* and 2.5* level. Started a new bid in Secaucus-North Bergen zone at the 3* level, bid $80 and was rejected. Added Jersey City, increased bit to $90, rejected. Added Elizabeth and increased bid to $95, success:Your Offer Price: $95.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $23.08 Total Charges*: $118.08 Success?? I was hoping for something in the Secaucus or EWR zone with free parking and while I was awaiting the outcome of my PL bid, I checked Hotwire again and the 3* Best Value in the EWR zone suddenly was reduced to $64. :) With the recent reports of Sky High rates in Manhattan, I didn't think that the Hyatt would make any rooms available on Priceline. Conventional rates at the Hyatt are $369 so I should be pleased, but parking and WiFi is an additional $40 here. Not to state the obvious, but it appears that the Hyatt has been using Priceline to dump its inventory even more close to the actual dates of travel, rather than 30 days out.
thereuare Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 We'll have to see if this trend continues after the 'busy season' subsides. On a side note, Jersey City will also soon be getting an "occupancy tax", although that should't effect demand at all. Thanks for the post... enjoy your stay.
