Jnet55 Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I would very much like to try Priceline for a 5* on the Strip in October. But having never used Priceline for bidding before, I'm very nervous about ending up off-strip. This will be our first trip to Vegas and I don't want to make that kind of mistake. I guess I'm showing my ignorance about this process. I've read a lot of posts on this board and just wonder if THE STRIP really means on-the-strip with Priceline? With that being said, would Hotwire be a better choice for bidding this?Jeanette
thereuare Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Your hotel can be anywhere within the shaded region of the zone you designate (priceline and HOTWIRE each have different boundaries for the area)For hotels that have previously been won in each you can see the corresponding Priceline and Hotwire hotel list.If you'd like assistance please let us know the actual dates of your stay and your budget... we'll the try to have a look at your best options and advise as to how to best proceed. Jnet55 Posted August 6, 2006 Author Report Posted August 6, 2006 I will be in Vegas for 5 nights beginning October 8th. I took your advice and looked more closely at the maps. It looks to me like the Venetian is the only Priceline 5* in the Strip-Fremont area, and there only appears to be one 5* for the Hotwire North Strip (which I assume is the Venetian) . The published rates for Venetian are $329/night, and I'd be willing to go to $189. Thanks for any help you can provide. Although I've read and re-read posts on this website, I'm not entirely comfortable with the bidding process yet. Sorry!
dahammer Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 It looks to me like the Venetian is the only Priceline 5* in the Strip-Fremont areait is the only 5* reported to this board, you could always be the first
thereuare Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 With direct rates at the Venetian $329 i'd very surprised if you'd be successful at $189 or less.We can suggest a strategy for you to try if you like, but i'd start to consider a back-up plan of either raising your bid or lower your star quality.Let us know what you'd like to do. Jnet55 Posted August 7, 2006 Author Report Posted August 7, 2006 I would be willing to go as high as $200/night, but anything more and I'd have to cut into my entertainment fund (ha-ha). I already have a room booked conventionally at the Mirage, but would cancel that in a flash if I could get a 5* for a good price. For that reason, I am not willing to bid on a 4* at this time. I'm also thinking it might be better to wait until closer to my trip to bid on a 5*. What do you think?
thereuare Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 If rates remain the same you're not likely to find success for a 5* at $200 or less. What is your rate at the Mirage? (which i'll remind everyone we're an affiliate of, as per our support page) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Jnet55 Posted August 7, 2006 Author Report Posted August 7, 2006 $189 for 10/8 and $149 for each of the next 4 nights! And thanks for the advice on 5* bidding. You never know until you ask someone who knows!!
thereuare Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Would you be interested in the Aladdin for ~$120/nite? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Jnet55 Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 No, we had not considered it. How does it compare to the Mirage?
thereuare Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 I've stayed at the Mirage when they first opened, my first trip to Vegas, and liked it very much... great pool area if that's what you're looking for.I've never stayed at the Aladdin, but they're currently converting it to a Planet Hollywood (so there may be some construction), and the location is a bit better as it's more centrally located (if you'll be hotel hopping and that's what you're looking for).Aladdin is cheaper if budget is a factor. Jnet55 Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 No, price is not the highest factor on my list, but an important one. I looked at the Aladin's website and think we'd prefer the Mirage. But you DO have me rethinking, and I'll definitely read more hotel reviews, etc. over the coming weeks. Thanks!
