dahammer Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 started my same day bidding through savingsbarn.com, I really wanted to go for the Country Inn and Suites in Elizabeth, opened at $70 at the 2.5* level, but was rejected. Took a chance and added Jersey City (making an assumption that this area was pretty full and a low bid would not be accepted), increased bid to $75, rejected. Added Clark (another chance, as I assumed the 3* Crowne Plaza would not accept a low bid) and bid $80, rejected. It looked like Hotwire had what appeared to be the Newark Hilton for $64, and I saw a recent Priceline win for the Hilton at $55, so I started a new round of bidding in the Newark area and bid $51 at the 3* level, success!Your Offer Price: $51.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $15.55 Total Charges: $66.55 at this rate, I can justify paying to park and High Speed internet, although it is against my nature to do so. :) The conventional rate through Orbitz is $179, so I'm pretty pleased with this win. Got a good tip on a Portugese restaurant near the Ironbound, no Rodizo tonight...
thereuare Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Nice work.I'm assuming this is the Hilton Airport location (1170 Spring Street) rather than the Hilton Gateway/Penn Station?Hope you enjoy(ed) your dinner and your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
dahammer Posted August 3, 2006 Author Report Posted August 3, 2006 yes, it was the Airport Hilton, $8 to park, $10 for High Speed internet. Even the nearby Fairfield Inn is up to $140, the Country Inn and Suites is $130...but parking, HS internet and breakfast are free... :) I haven't stayed here in awhile, but it seems that the rooms and common areas have been recently renovated, dinner was at Casa Vasca on Elm Street in Newark's Ironbound neighborhood, it features cuisine from the Basque region. Prices are reasonable and this restaurant has a parking lot a few doors away.
biddingforhotel Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 This is nice hotel, may sister always use this hotel the night before she went back to CA... One thing I don't know is that parking used to be free ...If you like shopping, you may find Jersey Garden nearby has many stores and huge food court. IKEA also near by has nice cafeteria with nice airport view and very good price.
