Dollaholic Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 I have been bidding on PL the last 2 days for 3 rooms in the Trevose- Bensalem area. First day, the foll. bids were rejected:Trevose- Bensalem - $60.00 rejectAdded Gloucester - $65.00 rejectAdded Stadium area - $75.00 reject.Next day, upped the amount by $5.00 for each bid. Still rejected. Is it going to take more than $100.00 to get a 3* there? Are they being rejected because my dates are on the weekend? Now, wondering if I should take my family and friends there paying so much only to get mobbed on the weekend at Sesame St.Any bidding strategy to get rooms under $100.00 would be much appreciated. Thanks
thereuare Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 With your two re-bid zones i would proceed as follows over the next two days:Select 3* Trevose...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previoulsy.Select 3* Trevose and re-bid zone2...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previoulsy. If the above is rejected post back and let us know if you want to keep your maximum bid at $100.Also found the Doubletree Club for $116/nite (non-refundable... $129 if you want a cancellable reservation). This was last reported as a 2.5* on Priceline, so not sure if you'd want to try bidding that star level first if you reach your 3* maximum. I might even consider bidding that now... but bidding significantly lower than you already have for a 3* (which would make it worthwhile in my view)Rates don't really appear that high, but i imagine summer is their "season" and they're holding out for booking 'regular rate' rooms. There are also aren't a lot of reported hotels in this zone, so their isn't much competition to drive rates down during their season.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. dahammer Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 you could also try the Langhorne-Trenton-Levittown zone as Sesame Place is located in Langhorne. There is not much bidding history in this zone. The Horsham-Willow Grove area is about 20 minutes from Sesame Place as well
Dollaholic Posted July 28, 2006 Author Report Posted July 28, 2006 Thanks for the replies.thereuare, I tried the strategy you mentioned. Was not successful in getting the bid with Max bid of $100.Looked at Hotwire, it gave me a price of $117.00/night. I think it must have been the Radisson. With taxes and charges it will come up to their list price. So, I think Priceline will accept something close to the Hotwire price. So, finally after browsing around, found Holiday Inn Philli NE (which is only 8 miles from Sesame St) for $109.00/night at their website, which I thought was a better deal than PL or Hotwire. I was also able to get the kind of rooms that I was looking for. Thanks for your suggestions; will check back during the next trip. Will sure make it a habit to go thru SavingsBarn.com the next time because this forum is immensely helpful for the Dollar-holics.
