disneycrazy
Hello:I am new to this website but have read lots of "winner" from priceline. My family will be traveling to Chicago 8/11-13 via Amtrak so would like a hotel close to the Union station and also close to the Shedd Aquarium and Institute of Science and Technology, after looking through chicago guide book, I thought the Hyatt Regency McCormick place sound good, I love the idea of having a pool also for my little kids!Anyway, I tried several attempts at Priceline and they have all been rejected (3* for greater chicago, loop, NMA and Skokie for up to $62). Would appreciate any advice. I am hoping to get the hotel for <$75 a night! Thanks! Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding!I'm a little confused as your topic title implies that you are only interested in the Hyatt McCormick Place hotel but you have bid other zones as well. Is the Hyatt just a preference and you're actually willing to accept any 3* hotel? You also mention that you're traveling as a family so i assume you're seeking more than double occupancy (or are you seeking more than one room?). Be aware that priceline only guarantees double occupancy, after that is at the discretion of the hotel. HOTWIRE allows you to search for up to quad occupancy. There is a further discusion of this in the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Let us know the answers to the above, and if you're willing to take the risk of double/quad ocupancy and we'll advise further. disneycrazy
Hello:I really liked the location for Hyatt Mccormick but will accept any 3* hotel in downtown Chicago <$75, as I undertand the public transportation is very good. There are four of us in the family, 2 adult, 1 5 yr old and an 18 months old so I figure even if we only had one queen or king bed, we should be OK, of course 2 bed would be better! thanks for any advice! GM Mike
Welcome to betterbidding --Don't worry about bidding other zones. You're almost better off in the Loop or NMA and taking public transportation to the museum campus or Sci&Tech anyway. Better to be north of the campus than south, as far as neighborhoods go.Good luck. Link to comment
thereuare
In light of the above advice, and given that everyone's definition of 'downtown' is different, please let us know exactly which zones (by Priceline name) you wish to bid and we will suggest a strategy to follow. disneycrazy
3* hotel in Loop, North Michigan area, or Greater Chicago for <$75. Thanks! Link to comment
thereuare
At the 3* level you have one re-bid zone available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Bid 3* Loop...Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $55, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Bid 3* NMA...Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $55, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Bid 3* Greater...Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $55, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Bid 3* Loop and NMA...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Bid 3* Loop and Greater...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Bid 3* Loop and NMA and Greater...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. disneycrazy
thanks for the quick reply, I will try tomorrow morning as my 24 hours expires tonight. So I should be able to do all the suggested bidding in a day or would I need to wait 24 hours for each bid? (the 24 hours window came up after I did 3 bids last night). thanks again! Link to comment

lowballer
Good lord, the Hyatt McCormick Place is NOT close to downtown, NOT close to the Field/Shedd, NOT close to Amtrak, NOT close to public transportation, NOT close to Union Station, NOT close to any neighborhood, NOT close to the Museum of Science and Industry (what I presume you mean) NOT close to any other touristy things and NOT close to anything other than McCormick Place itself.OK, it's about a mile and a half walk to the Field and the Shedd. But hotels in the Loop will be just as close, and a more enjoyable walk. Proximity to the Museum of Science and Industry doesn't really matter, because the L doesn't go there and you can't walk it from anywhere unless you stay down in Hyde Park. I've biked down there but you do NOT want to walk it unless you are VERY sure what you are doing.Do not stay at McCormick unless (1) you need to be near McCormick and/or (2) getting around quickly and cheaply is not a priority to you. disneycrazy
I was rejected for all the bids. What should I do now? What if I am willing to increase my bid to a max of $100. Should I repeat the above procedures starting at $80? Thanks! Link to comment
disneycrazy
:) After a whole bunch of tries I finally got an accepted bid of $90 to Marriott chicago At Medical District.
