onebumwheel Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Im going to San Diego for 1 night on 7/15. Looking at Hotwire the rooms are all over $200, so I thought I'd try priceline. Please help me come up with a strategy. Id stay in Gaslamp, Mission Valley/Hotel Circle, as those are normally among the more moderate priced places in the area. Id prefer 3* or 4*. Thanks!
GM Mike Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 What's your maximum bid? What's your priority: price or quality? (i.e. bid all the way up to your max at 4* before trying 3*?)Also, do you mean the "Downtown San Diego & Harbor Island" and "Mission Valley" zones? Check priceline's bidding map on their site and decide if those are actually the zones you want. What are you going to be doing in San Diego?
onebumwheel Posted July 8, 2006 Author Report Posted July 8, 2006 Both price and quality are important. I hate staying in rat traps, which is what Ive gotten when going below 3* in the past. The areas Id choose would be: Del Mar, Downtown SD & Harbor Island, Mission Valley, North County Coastal, San Diego Coastal. Id prefer to be under $100 out the door if possible. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

thereuare Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 A $70 bid seems different than you $100 'all-in' max, but here it goes.At the 4* level you have 2 zones to bid (of those you said would be 'ok' above) and 8 re-bid zones. At the 3* level you have 4 zones to bid and 7 re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Downtown and Coastal....Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* Downtown and Coastal and Del Mar and Mission Valley....Bid $35, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70.Any questions feel free to ask. I looked on Hotwire and found what appears to be a great deal, but it doesnt match anything on the list perfectly. 7/15-16 $58, 4* Customer Favorite Best ValueShuttleFitness CenterPoolRestaurantBusiness CenterHi Speed InternetGolf NearbyTennis Nearbysounds like the Irvine Hyatt. onebumwheel Posted July 13, 2006 Author Report Posted July 13, 2006 just logged on (thru your link :)) to book it and got all the way to the final stage and hit purchase and it said that "this itinerary is no longer available, please try again." That's BS, since I had it and it was clearly there.Any suggestions?
onebumwheel Posted July 13, 2006 Author Report Posted July 13, 2006 it appears they bumped it from $58 to $130...which seems crazy to me.
