dahammer Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 Rates in Secaucus are very high, nothing at the 3* level was available on Hotwire and many hotels in the are are sold out. Even the Comfort Inn on Tonnele Ave was full. What appeared to be the 2* HoJo's nearby was available in Hotwire's Hoboken zone for about $90, but I didn't want to reach that low. Started bidding through Savingsbarn.com at the 3* level at $75 and worked my way up through rebidding in $5 or $10 increments up to $115; a total of 8 bids. My last rejected bid in Secaucus-North Bergen was $95 although I had bid up to $110 in the Meadowlands-Rutherford zone. I used Jersey City as a "rebid" zone because of sold out conditions in that zone and because there is a big trade show at the Javits Center that likely filled a lot of rooms. Your Offer Price: $115.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $24.99 Total Charges: $139.99Conventional rates were $189, but when I just checked, the hotel is shown as being sold out.....I've never paid more than $75 for this property, so I guess the law of supply and demand works!!!

dahammer Posted June 9, 2006 Author Report Posted June 9, 2006 found out that Priceline paid $110 for the room plus 14% tax. Priority Club members get a pass into the 14th floor "club room" with free evening reception (although I did not partake) and free continental breakfast. High Speed internet is $9.95 a day.Ended up taking the NJ Transit Route 129 bus into Manhattan, $2.30 each way. The bus stop is on the other side of Meadowlands Parkway, about one block away. This is the last stop before the Lincoln Tunnel, and because the bus was in the tunnel before 10:00 am, the "bus lane" was still open and I was at the Port Authority Bus Terminal by 9:45 AM. Its a short walk to the Javits Center, about 15 minutes away.
